Six. The over/under is set at six runs. It's -105 for the under and -115 for the over. I haven't seen a line like this all year. I really don't think we've been under seven even once until now.

It's Chris Sale against Jacob Misiorowski.

Misiorowski is coasting to a Cy Young Award at -750, and Sale is second in the race at +850. They have the two best ERAs in the league. There are no holes to poke in either guy's game.

Sale has struck out lefties 31.5% of the time this year and righties 30.8%. It's rare to find a pitcher striking out both sides of the plate above 30% of the time, but that's what we have with both starting pitchers tonight.

If there is one angle to take for picking a hitter prop bet against the Braves starter, it might be a right-handed power hitter. Sale has a GB% above 70% when facing lefties, but with righties, it's less than 40%.

Righties have seven of the eight homers off of him. That's still not a lot of homers, but at least they have some chance of lucking into a long ball once or twice a night when Sale is on the bump. But that's kind of a moot point, because the Brewers have very little power. They're still dead last in the league in homers, so they don't win games through the homer.

Which I guess is good news for them, because they probably won't get any homers tonight. After Sale is out, they'll face off with one of the best bullpens in the league. Both pens are great, which helps push this total down as far as it has come.

What can you say about Misiorowski at this point?

He has a 40% K%, a 1.75 ERA, and a 0.75 WHIP. He's having one of the most impressive SP seasons of all time, by the ratios at least.

The Brewers have gone to a six-man rotation, which has helped Misioroski in his per-game pitch counts. He has gone seven, six, and six innings in his last three starts. He's coming off a 98-pitch start, so there are no pitch count worries at this point.

He's even better at home with a 43% K% and 21.7% SwStr%.

One thing that's given him a little trouble is the long ball. He's allowed 10 homers at home. Teams pretty much have to be up there hunting the homer because he's such an impossible pitcher to rack up a bunch of hits in a row against.

You're not putting together long innings against the guy, so you've gotta get a ball or two out of the yard to have a chance to win the game.

Braves vs Brewers Pick, Betting Analysis

My projections on each guy:

  • Misiorowski: 6 IP, 3.7 H, 2.0 ER, 8.4 SO, 1.7 BB
  • Sale: 6.1 IP, 4.6 H, 2.4 ER, 7.8 SO, 1.8 BB

Neither offense blows me away; there are a lot of underwhelming hitters in both lineups this year, and I think it can be tough to properly price a pitching matchup like this one.

The Brewers bullpen is missing a couple of key guys due to recent workload, and the Braves are still without Robert Suarez. My sims model takes the projections and has this game averaging about 6.2 runs. So the markets seem to be fair on this one.

If I'm forced to make a big pick, I'd take Misiorowski for 8+ strikeouts and Sale for 7+ and enjoy the show. That'll get you a parlay around -130.

I'm not touching an over/under of six, and there are no hitters we think can do much damage today.

Pick: Chris Sale 7+ Strikeouts, Jacob Misiorowski 8+ Strikeouts (-114, BetMGM)
