Tigers vs Royals Odds

Tigers vs Royals MLB Preview

This is a bet mainly on Troy Melton’s splits. Melton is dominant against right-handed hitters (.195 wOBA allowed, 24% K-BB), but he struggles more against lefties (.300 wOBA allowed, 8% K-BB).

The Royals should have six lefties in the lineup today, including a top-four of Carter Jensen, Bobby Witt (who smashes all pitching), Vinnie Pasquantino, and the white-hot Jac Caglianone.

Meanwhile, Noah Cameron is relatively split-neutral, although his OPS allowed is actually about 100 points lower against righties than against lefties.

The Tigers should have seven righties in the lineup today, but they still project for just a 91 wRC+ against left-handed pitching. Across the season, Detroit ranks fifth in wRC+ against righties (106) but 16th against lefties (96).

These are two equally bad bullpens and two relatively equally average defenses.

So, I think that all means advantage Royals, especially at current prices.
