Our first custom NRFI pick for Tuesday centers on Cristian Javier of the Houston Astros.
Javier has put up a remarkable 17-5 NRFI record this season to go along with a 10–3 record on the road. This accomplishment now places Javier's total at 21-5 for road NRFIs since 2022.
His NRFI success largely stems from his ability to handle batting order splits. In 2023, he's limited leadoff hitters to a mere .186 average and has allowed only 11 hits across 59 at-bats when facing Marlins hitters. Josh Bell (0-for-5), Joey Wendle (0-for-4), Jake Burger (0-for-1), and Luis Arraez (1-for-2) have all more or less been held in check by Javier.
Additionally, today's advantage tips in Javier's favor, as the Marlins have been one of the weakest offensive teams in the first inning this season, boasting an overall NRFI rate of 80%.
Our second custom NRFI selection features emerging Washington Nationals right-hander Josiah Gray.
This season, Gray has been a sensation in the NRFI realm, notching an impressive 19-4 record that's further highlighted by an 8-1 home NRFI split.
In his past encounters against Boston Red Sox hitters, Gray has held his ground. Alex Verdugo (0-for-2), Justin Turner (0-for-1), Adam Duvall (0-for-5) and Rafael Devers (1-for-3) have all found Gray to be a formidable opponent.
Gray's advantage today is accentuated by the Red Sox's unimpressive first-inning hitting record. This year, they've managed an 82% NRFI rate on the road, a trend exacerbated by their current 9-1 NRFI streak in the last 10 games.
As always, six outs to glory…
