New York Mets Betting Preview: Total Disarray

The new-look New York Mets are a mess. Juan Soto is injured, Francisco Lindor is still trying to get right after a hand fracture, Bo Bichette is cold, Marcus Semien is showing his age, and Jorge Polanco might be the worst DH in baseball (not named Marcell Ozuna).

Fortunately, there are some bright spots in the lineup. Francisco Alvarez is one of the best hitters in baseball to start this season, while Luis Robert Jr. is suddenly an extremely patient hitter. When Soto returns, this team could be solid, assuming Lindor is back to form by then.

Despite their fifth-worst team offense by wRC+, their team pitching is eighth in ERA and fifth in FIP. Freddy Peralta, Devin Williams, Clay Holmes, and today's starter, Nolan McLean, are doing their job at a high level thus far.

Kodai Senga could have been part of this mix after his first two starts, but his most recent was bad enough to bump his ERA to 7.07.

There are several elite and great talents on this roster. They will not be bad forever (regardless of what the most pessimistic Mets fans may claim).

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview: Champs for a Reason

The back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in baseball through 16 games.

They are coming off a win Monday night where they blanked the Mets with their sixth starter, Justin Wrobleski. Wrobleski was a reliever/long man last season, but pitched a career-high eight innings and gave up just two hits, with zero walks or runs.

This is the state of the Dodgers. They can get a game like this out of a fringe starter (albeit a talented one), then turn around and throw out Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani through the rest of a series.

The offense has a similar luxury. Former top team prospect Dalton Rushing hit two home runs on April 6, yet has played just one game since. Rushing would have earned an extended leash on most teams to continue his success, but the Dodgers are inclined to start perennial All-Star Will Smith.

Regardless of Mookie Betts' injury absence and Kyle Tucker's slow start, the offense still ranks as the best in baseball by wRC+, wOBA, OPS, slugging percentage, OBP, batting average, and home runs.

This is the best team in baseball and should remain so.

Mets vs Dodgers Picks

Nolan McLean versus Yoshinobu Yamamoto is a primetime matchup that could be mistaken for a World Baseball Classic final. The only thing missing is an offense for the Mets.

Yamamoto is carrying over his success since he entered the league. His 2.65  ERA from 2024 through 2026 is the fifth-best among all starters with at least 250 innings pitched in this span.

He won the World Series MVP for a reason after posting a 1.45 ERA throughout the postseason, then pitched spectacularly in the WBC.

Yamamoto has pitched exactly six innings in each of his three starts this season, but could go deeper with an efficient start to the game. Nevertheless, the Dodgers' bullpen is mostly fresh for the game, with Tanner Scott the only reliever unavailable.

On the flip side, Nolan McLean is carrying over his success from the 48 innings he provided in 2025. The second-year SP is still a rookie by MLB standards and deserves his spot as a top-three favorite for NL Rookie of the Year (+450).

McLean has a 2.23 ERA in 69 innings since 2025, with fantastic peripherals. His 3.08 xERA, 2.87 xFIP, and 3.07 SIERA would rank among the league's if he qualified with this sample.

While the Mets are on an unfortunate six-game losing streak, they at least have their bullpen fresh and available for a close matchup Tuesday night.

Pick: Under 7.5 (-110, FanDuel)
