Yankees vs Orioles MLB Betting Preview

New York Yankees Betting Preview

The Yankees are a virtual lock for the playoffs, with their odds at 99.6%. They are 70-55, yet sit 5 games behind the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays.

New York has been treading water for weeks with a .500 record due to the losses in their lineup. Superstar slugger Aaron Judge (ribs) remains out of the lineup, while All-Star Cody Bellinger is on the mend from a hamstring injury he suffered in July.

Their reinforcements at the trade deadline, Luis Garcia Jr. and Heliot Ramos, have yet to make an impact, but they do have not hurt the offense.

The most impactful addition has been rookie SS George Lombard Jr. He has posted 0.4 fWAR and a 138 wRC+ in 12 games. His production once the Yankees lineup returns to full strength will be interesting to follow.

The rotation was supposed to be at full strength this week with Carlos Rodon's return, but fellow star SP Max Fried (elbow) was just shelved for at least the next two weeks. Fried's injury is not deemed serious, but you never know with elbows.

Baltimore Orioles Betting Preview

The Orioles have woken up, yet sit last in the AL East with a 61-65 record. Fortunately, they are only one game behind a Wild Card slot, with a month and a half of baseball to go.

Baltimore's offense is mashing in recent weeks. Despite selling key pieces like Adley Rutschman and Taylor Ward at the deadline and losing Samuel Basallo to the Injured List, the offense is among the best since the Trade Deadline.

The rotation, led by Shane Baz, Kyle Bradish, and Trevor Rogers, is carrying its weight, and the bullpen is holding it down, even without star RP Ryan Helsley.

Baltimore is not suited for a deep playoff run with the roster as constructed, but they have the pieces to come back stronger in 2027. It will just heavily rely on Gunnar Henderson finding his old form and Jackson Holliday staying healthy (and taking a step).

Yankees vs Orioles Pick, Betting Analysis

Will Warren's time as a starter was supposed to end this week, but the injury to Max Fried has given him a new lease on life.

Unfortunately, Warren has been pitching poorly on the road and will be in a hitter-friendly environment today.

  • Warren at home: 21.5% K-BB, .335 wOBA allowed, 3.06 xFIP
  • Warren on the road: 8.3% K-BB, .347 wOBA allowed, 4.53 xFIP

Meanwhile, Orioles' starter Chris Bassitt has not pitched much this season (61 1/3 IP). However, he is also pitching better at home than on the road.

  • Bassitt at home: 11.5% K-BB, .300 wOBA allowed, 3.80 xFIP
  • Bassitt on the road: -0.7% K-BB, .416 wOBA allowed, 6.33 xFIP

The damage against Bassitt primarily comes against left-handed hitters. All six of his home runs allowed this season have come from lefties. He is dominating righties, but the Yankees will only have three at most in the starting lineup.

Nevertheless, the Orioles' offense is much more potent than the Yankees' in recent weeks. Both offenses are around league average against RHP, yet Baltimore ranks as the best offense in baseball during the past 14 days (127 wRC+), while the Yankees rank 24th (80 wRC+).

Pick: Baltimore Orioles ML (+106)
