After a slow start to the season, Charlie Morton has rebounded in full force. Through May, Morton pitched to a 5.47 ERA with only 46 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings. Since then, Uncle Chuck has posted a 3.07 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 67 1/3 innings. He’s eclipsed this line in nine of 11 outings in that span.

Morton’s go-to weapon is his curveball. It’s not only his most-used pitch, but his most effective (.173 xBA) and he generates a 41% whiff rate when he spins it.

I like the matchup today, too. The Rec Sox have struggled of late, with a .655 OPS vs righties over the last month (25th best) and the third-highest strikeout rate (26.8%).

Plus, the curveball has given Boston some struggles. Since June, the Red Sox’s 0.93 wRC per 100 curveballs seen ranks 27th in baseball. Six of their projected starters have at least a 25% K rate vs the pitch.

It’s a low number due to the perception of the matchup, but I love Morton to come through tonight. I have the stalwart projected at 7 strikeouts.

Pick: Charlie Morton Over 5.5 Strikeout (-122) | Playable to -140
