Hornets vs Spurs NBA Preview
This is the last of a four game road trip for the Hornets, who are 2-1 during their trip away from North Carolina.
The Hornets are not quite as dominant as they were for that insane stretch across January and February — but in totality, Charlotte has still won eight of its last 10 games.
Even with that, the Hornets are positioned as the 10-seed Eastern Conference standings at the moment — and following today's game with the Spurs, Charlotte will be home for seven straight.
The Spurs are in the last of a six-game homestand, in which they have won 5-of-6.
The Spurs won six in a row prior to their loss to the Nuggets on Thursday night — but similarly, they have been ridiculously good lately, winning 16-of-18 since the start of February.
Tidjane Salaun (calf) and Liam McNeeley (ankle) are out for the Hornets, who will also have Coby White (heel) and Ryan Kalkbrenner (illness) listed as probable.
Hornets vs Spurs Predictions, Betting Analysis
If you listen to our Buckets podcast, you know how much I love the Hornets — but this is a Spurs spot for me.
You have the revenge angle, given that Charlotte beat them at home on January 31.
You have the bounce-back angle with the Spurs losing to Denver last game, combined with the Hornets winning two straight.
You have the last game of a road trip angle regarding the Hornets — and you also have the afternoon home start for San Antonio.
The spread for this game originally opened at Spurs -7.5 and is already down to Spurs -5 as of Saturday morning.
For me, this play is more of a lean than anything, because I love and respect what Charlotte is capable of, but the Hornets' elite numbers usually come when they are at a rest disadvantage.
As road underdogs, the Hornets are the fifth-best against the spread at 15-8 — hence why this is just a lean for me — but San Antonio is 11-7 ATS and 13-5 straight up after losses.
Plus, the Spurs are 23-7 straight up and 16-13-1 ATS as home favorites — both marks rank top seven in the NBA.
Pick: Spurs -5 (-120)
