Arkansas Basketball

Arkansas looked incredibly exciting to begin its 2025-26 campaign. The Razorbacks have a pair of electric young guards in Darius Acuff and Meleek Thomas, who could totally dominate. I'm sure Izzo will create a plan to make life tough on the young guards, but both are gifted scorers. Thomas came off the bench in the opener, but in the biggest moments, he's probably on the court.

The Razorbacks also have a very formidable interior. Trevon Brazile is such a mismatch with his 6-10 height, athleticism, and shooting ability. He scored a team-high 25 points in the Razorbacks' win over Southern. In addition to Brazile, Arkansas has a delightful duo with Malique Ewin and Nick Pringle.

Arkansas scored an impressive 109 points on 1.35 PPP in the win over Southern. One of its biggest improvements from last year to this year is shooting. They were a dreadful perimeter shooting team last year — but adding the two freshman guards totally flipped their identity.

Whichever team dictates the pace could help decide which team wins. I feel like John Calipari turned a new leaf when he went to Arkansas. He's always had talent, but this might be one of his most modern teams.

He wants his team to play fast, and they can also shoot a lot of 3s. That's not a thing we've seen from a lot of Coach Cal teams.

I always feel a bit uncomfortable betting against the legend that is Tom Izzo. He's one of the best coaches of all time, but I have a hard time buying stock in this Spartans squad.

My worry with this Michigan State squad is the same as the last few ones. The Spartans have shotty shooting and floor spacing. They start Jeremy Fears, Coen Carr, Jaxon Kohler, and Carson Cooper — three of the four are basically non-shooters, and Kohler is just an alright shooter.

For the Spartans to have a good season, they'll need to be an elite defensive squad and find ways to score outside of shooting. They typically do, as no team is better than catching a team off guard after a made basket, going down court, and scoring.

However, the Spartans have Trey Fort and Divine Ugochukwu, who can provide shooting off the bench. If they emerge victorious, Fort likely plays an impactful role. Michigan State also prides itself on dominating the glass. The Spartans posted the ninth-best defensive rebound percentage last year and the 28th-best offensive rebound rate.

Michigan State carried the success on the glass into this year. Colgate grabbed just three offensive rebounds in its loss to the Spartans.

Arkansas vs. Michigan State Betting Analysis

I'm betting on Arkansas to emerge with a road win. It'll be interesting to see how Acuff and Thomas fare in their first college road games, but I view Arkansas as a possible top-15 team in the sport. That's still not where the market sits on them, so I'll buy into them more here.

My Pick: Arkansas ML +100
