DePaul vs UConn NCAAB Betting Preview
DePaul Basketball
DePaul is coming into this game with a 10-6 record after its win against Georgetown. This is the fastest DePaul has reached 10 wins in a season since 2020, when it won its 10th game on December 14.
The Blue Demons rely heavily on their defense if they want any chance to win this game. They have a top-50 defense on KenPom and hold teams to 44.6% on 2-point attempts (13th nationally).
As good as the Blue Demons are on defense, they're just as bad on offense, ranking 203rd on KenPom in offensive efficiency.
For DePaul to be successful on offense, it's pivotal that it shares the basketball. DePaul assists on 64% of its made field goals — which ranks 13th in the country — but in its loss to UConn earlier this season, it only had seven assists on 20 made field goals.
DePaul is led by CJ Gunn, who's coming off his worst game of the season in the Blue Demons' win against Georgetown. He had three points on 1-of-9 shooting and fouled out in 26 minutes.
If DePaul wants to have a chance to win this game, it'll need a collective defensive effort and a massive bounce-back game from Gunn.
UConn Basketball
UConn has been rolling since its loss to Arizona. The Huskies are winners of 11 straight, including their thrilling overtime win at Providence last game.
Four of UConn's starting five scored 20 points or more in the win against Providence, but it was Silas Demary Jr.'s playmaking ability at point guard that really blew me away.
Demary has been a little up and down for the Huskies this season, but he was fantastic against Providence with 23 points 15 assists, and five steals.
Back on December 21st, Demary Jr had 13 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, two blocks and a steal in UConn's win at DePaul.
UConn has five guys averaging double figures, and it can be any of their nights at any given time.
In that first matchup against DePaul, Alex Karaban led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 7-of-12 overall and 3-of-6 from 3.
My X-factor for this game is Tarris Reed Jr. Reed did it all for UConn in the first matchup against DePaul, scoring 14 points, collecting 11 rebounds and adding four assists and three blocks.
Reed is physical on both ends of the floor, and he was a key reason why UConn had 38 points in the paint in the last matchup against DePaul.
DePaul vs. UConn Betting Analysis
Though UConn gave up 98 points to Providence, it still has a top-five defense on KenPom, and it played like it in its 72-54 win at DePaul less than a month ago.
The Huskies smothered DePaul, only allowing seven assists on 20 made shots while holding the Blue Demons to 23% from 3.
UConn's edge in this game is its physicality on defense and its ability to create easy looks by penetrating the paint.
My Pick: UConn -19.5 (Play to -20.5)
