NC State vs Auburn College Basketball Betting Preview
NC State Basketball
NC State has lost two of its last three games and owns a 5-2 overall record. The Wolfpack haven’t faced a top-25 foe all season long, and Auburn’s home court will present their toughest challenge to date.
They'll be able to match Auburn in terms of length, and they actually have a slight edge in depth, ranking much higher in bench minutes.
They'll try to outpace Auburn, but a hostile environment might actually let Auburn dictate the flow of the game.
The Wolfpack also do a terrible job at allowing teams to get to the line. That often slows their pace down as well.
Auburn Basketball
I'll be the first to admit that I've been unable to read Auburn this season. I backed the Tigers as a nice +200 on the moneyline against Houston, a game they fell a point short in. I also thought they’d be competitive against Michigan, and they were blown out by 30.
After I went and faded them against St. John’s, a game they won by 11.
Their offseason was probably just as confusing as their games have been for me. They lost their coach due to early retirement, and they appointed the second-generation Pearl, Steven.
The big discrepancy in this game is the styles in which they play. NC State surprisingly pushes the pace, while Auburn plays at a slower tempo, ranking 196th nationally.
Auburn has yet to lose a home game this season, coming with a 4-0 record, but the quality of play hasn't been great. Auburn hasn’t played a team ranked inside the top 215 in KenPom's rankings on their home court.
I love that the Tigers don't give the ball away, though.
NC State vs. Auburn Betting Analysis
This spread is sitting at -5.5 at most sportsbooks, and it’s a tricky number. We most likely need free throws to fall late to cover this if we back Auburn.
Auburn isn't particularly great at the free-throw line, but I expect the Tigers to be in the double bonus early on, so at least we'll get two free throws when needed.
Auburn is the better team top to bottom, and with NC State still seemingly figuring things out, I don’t expect it to surprise here. I’ll lay the -5.5, but there won’t be a lot of room for error.
