Oregon vs Purdue College Basketball Betting Preview
Oregon Basketball
The rough season continues for the Oregon Ducks, as they sit at 8-14 overall and 1-10 in conference play, currently riding an eight-game losing streak.
During that eight-game skid, nothing has gone right.
The Ducks are piling up injuries, they can’t score, and they can’t defend.
Since Jan. 5, Oregon ranks 351st in offensive effective field-goal percentage (45.7%) and 325th in defensive effective field-goal percentage (56.2%).
Opponents are shooting over 40% from 3 during the losing streak while also converting 53% of their attempts from 2.
The Ducks are desperately searching for answers as they head out on the road to face a Purdue offense that's one of the best in the Big Ten, ranking inside the top two in several categories.
With Nate Bittle and Jackson Shelstad sidelined, Kwame Evans Jr. has stepped up to lead the Ducks in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
Even with Evans playing at a high level, Oregon will need multiple players to deliver standout performances to keep this game close.
Purdue Basketball
Purdue snapped its three-game losing streak in a big way, dominating a struggling Maryland team, 93-63. The Boilermakers enter this matchup sitting at 18-4 overall and 8-3 in Big Ten play.
During that three-game skid, Purdue was one of the worst defensive teams in college basketball. Opponents shot 43% from 3 (308th), 60.6% from 2 (318th), and the Boilermakers posted a defensive effective field-goal percentage of 62.7% (343rd).
Prior to the losing streak, Purdue was holding teams to 30.6% from beyond the arc (48th) and ranked 19th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency.
While the defense hit a rough patch, the offense never did.
Purdue owns the second-best adjusted offensive efficiency in the country, according to KenPom.
The Boilermakers’ bread and butter is spot-up shooting. Purdue ranks in the 99th percentile in points per possession on spot-up shots (1.196), per Synergy.
Although he struggled over the previous four games, Fletcher Loyer remains one of the best spot-up shooters in the nation. He knocked down five triples against Maryland on his way to a 29-point performance — more points than he scored in the previous four games combined (26).
Oregon vs Purdue Pick, Betting Analysis
The end of the season can’t get here quickly enough for Oregon, and unfortunately for the Ducks, they have to go through West Lafayette before reaching the finish line.
Purdue dismantled one of the worst teams in the Big Ten in its previous game. The Boilermakers’ 3-point shooting tore Maryland apart, while the defense held the Terps to 63 points — the fewest Purdue has allowed since Dec. 20 against Auburn (60).
Purdue’s offense should continue to roll, and its defense is set up for a second consecutive strong outing against one of the weakest offenses in the country.
My Pick: Purdue -19.5 (Play to -20.5)
