Virginia Tech vs Clemson College Basketball Betting Preview

Virginia Tech Basketball

Virginia Tech sits at 16-8 overall (5-6 in the ACC), and it hasn't found its footing since the calendar turned to 2026.

The Hokies beat their rival Virginia back on December 31 in triple overtime to move them to 12-2 overall.

Since then, the Hokies are 4-6.

Virginia Tech made a splash in the offseason when they landed 6-foot-9 freshman Neoklis Avdalas. Avdalas started the first half of the season strong, averaging about 15 points per game over the first 14 games while scoring in double figures in 10 of them.

In his last 10 games, however, Avdalas is averaging 9.8 points per game, scoring in double figures in only half of those outings.

Though he scored zero points in the loss at NC State, Ben Hammond has stepped up in a big way for Virginia Tech. Going into the NC State game, Hammond was averaging 15 points per game over his last 15 games, including his 30-point outing against Virginia.

For Virginia Tech to get things going offensively, they need to utilize Hammond's shiftiness as a ball handler in the two-man game, where he's good at getting downhill and creating scoring opportunities for himself and others.

Clemson Basketball

In the words of Dabo Swinney, "Little Ole Clemson" keeps on rolling.

The Tigers are 20-4 overall (10-1 in the ACC) and have been winning games thanks to their defense.

I cashed on their under when the Tigers beat Stanford 66-64, and it's easy to see why.

Clemson has the best defense in the ACC, and what makes it so difficult to play against is its ability to help the helper on defensive rotations.

Opposing offenses are shooting 129-of-396 (32.6%) on spot-up shots against Clemson because the Tigers are great at communicating and moving with the ball.

Offensively, there's nothing flashy. They're simple, yet effective.

Clemson has six guys averaging 8-12 points per game, while also having the slowest tempo in the ACC.

Virginia Tech vs. Clemson Betting Analysis

The Hokies are in the bottom half of the ACC in offensive efficiency, shooting only 49% from 2 and 32% from 3. They're going up against the top 2-point defense in the ACC (45%).

Virginia Tech will run its ball screen action to get Hammond downhill, but that will play into Clemson's strength.

Virginia Tech is averaging 68 points per game in its last four games and has lost three of the four. The Hokies are now facing a Clemson defense that's allowed one ACC team to score over 70 points on the season, and that was when NC State scored 80 points in an overtime win.

Littlejohn Coliseum is one of the hardest places to play in the ACC, and with the Hokies struggling to find their offensive identity, they'll struggle to score in that environment while Clemson plays its slow tempo.

Pick: Under 136.5
