Miami (OH) RedHawks Betting Preview

Head coach Chuck Martin is among the best Group of 5 coaches, but his RedHawks have plenty of questions entering 2025.

They lost tons of talent on both sides of the ball, ranking in the bottom 10 nationally in returning production.

There are significant questions about the offense, particularly the young offensive line. At least new quarterback Dequan Finn should help because of his mobility.

Still, I expect the offense to run at a slow tempo and without much explosiveness. I don’t expect them to buck that projection against a Power 4 team on Thursday.

The RedHawks might also be a mess defensively after losing their top two pass rushers, top cornerback, and top two linebackers from last year’s squad.

The Redhawks have always prided themselves on limiting explosive plays, which will not matter too much against Wisconsin, as the Badgers will look to move the ball down the field methodically.

I have no reason to believe the Redhawks can hang against the Badgers here. There are too many questions on both sides of the ball, and I would not be shocked to see them get shut out.

Wisconsin Badgers Betting Preview

This is a very significant season for head coach Luke Fickell, who begins year three in Madison.

The schedule is brutal, so there won’t be many opportunities for the Badgers to flex their muscles.

Luckily, Thursday presents an excellent opportunity for the Badgers to get off to a quick start in a matchup where they have a significant talent advantage. Wisconsin returns a significant amount of production from last year’s team and has made meaningful acquisitions in the portal.

Even better, I prefer new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes to former OC Phil Longo. Grimes’ philosophy fits the Badgers’ makeup better, as they’ll lean heavily on the ground behind a solid offensive line (who should roll over Miami’s weaker defensive front).

Meanwhile, I suspect Wisconsin’s defensive line will take advantage of Miami’s inexperienced offensive line.

Miami (OH) vs Wisconsin Pick, Betting Analysis

I’m all over Wisconsin in the first half.

Fickell wants his team to get off to a blazing start, and things could get rough at Camp Randall for the inexperienced RedHawks.

Pick: Wisconsin 1H -9.5 (-125, DraftKings | Play to -10.5)
