Oregon vs Oklahoma State College Football Preview
Oregon Ducks Betting Preview
It was ugly, but disaster was avoided.
Oregon closed as a 24.5-point favorite against Boise State and did not take their first lead until midway through the third quarter.
Dan Lanning said it was a few “critical situations” that cost his Ducks, and he’s right. Oregon went 0-3 on fourth-down conversions and muffed a punt, which let the Broncos hang around far later than they could have. Oregon out-gained Boise State by 223 total yards, but it certainly didn’t feel like it.
While Oklahoma State’s entire roster is new, Oregon returns 14 starters from a team that went 13-0 last season against non-Indiana opponents. Quarterback Dante Moore has plenty of skill-position options, including wide receivers Jeremiah McClellan and Dakorien Moore, who each brought in a touchdown in Week 1.
Big plays will be available against Oklahoma State given concerns in the secondary. Oregon should be able to spread the ball around.
Oklahoma State wants a fast-paced game, and that plays directly into Oregon’s speed and athleticism at the skill positions. Outside of Mestemaker making some key plays (certainly possible), it is hard to see Eric Morris' offense going toe-to-toe with Dan Lanning’s for 60 minutes.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Betting Preview
Eric Morris was one of the more exciting head coaching hires made this offseason.
Following three seasons at the helm of North Texas and a career year with quarterback Drew Mestemaker last season, Morris brought his star quarterback, his star running back Caleb Hawkins, and plenty of other key pieces with him to Stillwater.
All in all, Oklahoma State has 91 new players and 66 transfers compared to last year. It was a change that was much needed, and there was plenty of real optimism that Morris’ offense would hit the ground running.
That was not the case in Week 1, as Oklahoma State scored just 10 points in a 24-10 loss to Tulsa (after closing as 13.5-point favorites). Mestemaker threw two picks and fumbled once, while Morris’ up-tempo scheme never found its footing.
A bounce back should be expected from an offense with this much skill, but an angry Oregon defense with even more speed, athleticism and skill is surely not what Morris wishes was next up.
There are plenty of teams in college football that Morris, Mestemaker and Hawkins can outscheme and outscore to beat. This Oregon team is not one of them.
On the defensive side, the Cowboys still have questions to answer, particularly in the secondary. A limited Tulsa offense produced a handful of explosive plays, including 56- and 47-yard completions downfield.
Oregon ranked among the top 20 teams nationally last season in both Offensive Success Rate and Explosiveness. There will not be much resistance here.

Oregon vs Oklahoma State Pick, Betting Analysis
Oregon blitzed Mike Gundy’s last Oklahoma State team 69-3 last season, but will Eric Morris fare any better?
It shouldn’t be that bad, but a blowout in some form would not be a total surprise.
Oklahoma State’s core group of North Texas transfers looked in over their heads in Week 1 against Tulsa, and it won’t get any easier against a team with the talent across the board that Oregon owns.
Last season, Morris’ North Texas team played one top-25 opponent in the regular season — The Mean Green lost to South Florida, 63-36.
There’s a real chance that trying to match a Dan Lanning offense play for play results in a similar script — that is, if Oklahoma State can score more than they did in Week 1.
Expect Oregon at their best, and Oklahoma State to need more time.
Add in the motivational spot here for Oregon to get back in form after the disappointing showing against Boise, and it becomes hard to handicap anything but laying the number with the Ducks.
The public agrees — this line opened under three touchdowns, and it is rising quickly, but there’s still value.
Pick: Oregon -24 or Better
