San Jose State vs Eastern Michigan Michigan College Football Preview
This game triggered one of our Action PRO betting systems, powered by Evan Abrams:
Short Road Dogs is a college football system that focuses on underdogs playing away from home in the regular season when the moneyline falls in a competitive range that signals a realistic chance to win outright.
These teams are visitors facing manageable matchups where the closing total is between 41 and 71, suggesting balanced scoring potential rather than extreme results.
Line movement on the total that stays within a narrow window from open to close reflects market stability and avoids heavy adjustments that could skew value.
By isolating games where the underdog is not severely overmatched but still priced attractively, the system captures overlooked spots where road teams can pull off wins more often than the odds imply, creating steady long-term value on the moneyline.

San Jose State vs Eastern Michigan Pick, Betting Analysis
If you just looked at pre-season scouting reports on these two teams, you’d be all over Eastern Michigan in this game.
All indicators are pointing down for the Spartans (including ranking 137th in SP+ returning production), while all indicators are pointing up for the Eagles (including ranking 24th in SP+ returning production, rare for a MAC program).
The Spartans are working on a total rebuild, while the Eagles have a very experienced roster, quarterback, and head coach.
Stuckey even picked EMU to win the MAC this season:
Yet, we watched both of these teams play last week.
San Jose State gave USC a run for its money on the road. New quarterback Luke Weaver carved it up (234 yards, 2 TDs, .30 EPA per play) en route to 26 points and a respectable 52% Success Rate (73rd percentile). The Spartans were dominated by USC’s offense, but who isn’t going to get dominated by a Lincoln Riley offense? At least they allowed zero explosives.
At the same time, Eastern Michigan farted around at home against Sacramento State. The Eagles generated -0.06 EPA per play (28th percentile) and gained just 41% of available yards (a lower percentage than Sac State, who gained 43%). They struggled to run the ball, and they allowed Carson Conklin to rack up three big-time throws.
It might be too early to adjust our power ratings, but between these two teams, I feel like San Jose State has the better initial data point of the 2026 season.
Well, actually, it wasn’t too early for Collin Wilson to update his power ratings — he projects San Jose State as a favorite.
Pick: San Jose State Spartans ML (+100 or Better)
