St. Francis (PA) vs ULM Pick, Betting Analysis
It might be tough for many to lay this big a number with the Warhawks, but I like them at anything under four touchdowns.
St. Francis plays in the Northeastern Conference in the FCS, but the Red Flash are on their way to the Division III level, which is non-scholarship. As a result, a ton of talent portaled out.
St. Francis is going through a complete rebuild on defense. The front seven is inexperienced and undersized. The secondary has to replace 43 career starts. The Red Flash will have a rough time defending ULM’s rush attack.
St. Francis is also unsettled at quarterback. It could be a three-man rotation under center between Nick Whitfield Jr., Jeff Hoenstine, and Adrian Mejia. All three took snaps last year, but the team generated a whopping 159 passing yards per game.
Even worse, the Red Flash lost their top five receivers from last year’s squad, and they could be using Meija as a pass catcher. They have no clue what they’re doing on that side of the ball, so it will probably be tough sledding this week.
From a scheduling perspective, the Warhawks have Alabama on deck, followed by a bye week. They won’t beat Alabama, and they want to build momentum before the bye week, so I expect them to unload upon the Red Flash and get some key snaps.
The Warhawks should be firing on all cylinders.
ULM’s defense last season was alright, at least for the first half of the year before the team started to wear down. Aidan Armenta is an under-the-radar, talented quarterback in the Sun Belt, and I expect him to take a step forward in his second year in the system.
It’s a night-and-day talent mismatch between these two teams, and I believe the Warhawks have the necessary motivation to cover the number.
Pick: ULM -23.5 (-110, DraftKings | Play to -27)
