Alberta online casino sites are now live—but players quickly noticed one major surprise: there is no online poker.

The province officially launched its regulated online gaming market at midnight on Monday, becoming the second in Canada after Ontario. While 23 operators went live right away, none offered poker, leaving a noticeable gap in the new system.

Poker could still arrive in Alberta, but it depends on one key factor: shared liquidity.

Officials are working on an agreement with Ontario that would allow players in both provinces to compete together. If approved, this would create larger tournaments and more active games.

There is also a legal case in Canada that could decide whether provinces can share player pools more broadly, including with international markets.

For now, no timeline has been confirmed.

Even without regulated poker, Alberta players are not fully locked out.

Sites like PokerStars, 888poker, and partypoker are still operating through international platforms during a transition period. This allows players to access global games for now.

However, this setup is expected to change as operators move fully into Alberta’s regulated system.
