Start with the Nebraska offense. Anthony Colandrea opened the season 5-0, completing 65.7% of his passes with 13 touchdowns and two interceptions. In the three losses since, he has two touchdowns and five interceptions, including three picks against Washington. Nebraska scored 17, 14, and 10 points in those games. A team that struggles to reach 20 points has a hard time winning by five or more.
Illinois looks like a different team with quarterback Katin Houser back from a hand injury. He threw for 223 yards at Maryland and led a 13-play, 67-yard drive for the winning points in a 20-17 victory. The Illini outgained the Terrapins 407-288 and held them to 6-of-14 on third down. A week earlier, Illinois beat Oregon 21-10 at home. The Illini haven't lost since falling 24-17 to Purdue on Oct. 3.
Margins favor the points here. Nebraska's three straight losses came by 3, 3, and 7 points, and two of Illinois' last three wins came by three points or fewer.
