Panthers vs Jaguars NFL Preseason Preview
The Panthers are coming off a 29-14 loss against the Bills in Week 1 of the NFL preseason, where starting quarterback Bryce Young saw only a little action.
Backup Kenny Pickett had the majority of reps under center. Starters like wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan did not play, but they're likely to see some action this time around.
It will be interesting to see how much running back Jonathon Brooks plays in this game. The talented third-year player has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but is in line for a lead role in the backfield, especially with Chuba Hubbard currently injured.
The Jaguars beat the Saints 24-20 in Week 1 in a game where they rested all of their starters. Carter Bradley got most of the reps at quarterback, while J'Mari Taylor saw 22 touches in the backfield.
Head coach Liam Coen has already publicly stated the starters will see some action in this game.
That means that Trevor Lawrence, Bhayshul Tuten, Parker Washington, and Brian Thomas Jr. will be on the field in this one, which makes the Jaguars look like the intriguing side in this matchup, especially since they have a more talented roster than the Panthers.
Panthers vs Jaguars Prediction, Betting Analysis
With the Jaguars planning to play their starters for part of the first half, I'm giving them the edge in this matchup.
I know that the Panthers can take over in the second half with backups playing, but I can't pass up getting Lawrence and company as 1.5-point underdogs here. They're the much more talented team.
The Jaguars didn't play their starters at all in Week 1, which leads me to believe that they'll at least see some action for a good chunk of the first quarter, if not more, in this game against the Panthers.
Once they leave the game, we could see a veteran quarterback like Nick Mullens get some reps as well, which gives me a bit more confidence in the backups.
Back the Jaguars as short underdogs in this one.
Pick: Jaguars +1.5 (52 cents)
Spread
The Panthers (-1.5) have stayed at 50-51 cents for most of the time. We've seen little movement here, so I'm backing the Jaguars at +1.5, as mentioned.
Moneyline
We've seen only slight movement on the moneyline, with the Panthers going from 56% to 55% favorites.
Over/Under
As with the spread, Over/Under hasn't moved much here.
