Chicago Bears Betting Preview: Soft Schedule Exposed

With all the talk around the Packers and Lions as Super Bowl contenders, it's the Bears who are leading the NFC North. To their credit, they've taken care of business … but they haven't exactly been tested.

This matchup against the Eagles will be just their fourth game against a team that currently has a record over .500, and the line for this matchup is very telling of where the division-leading Bears stand against the defending Super Bowl champions.

Matchup-wise, it will be tough for Chicago to get much going offensively. As noted, the Bears have benefited greatly from a soft schedule. So while they rank eighth in points per game and sixth in yards per game, a closer look shows they've been inefficient.

Caleb Williams is 31st in completion percentage and 15th in yards per pass, and although the run game has aided him this year, the Eagles are likely to load the box and force Williams to be consistent.

Philadelphia Eagles Betting Preview: Hurts & Browns Connecting

The Eagles come into this matchup off a deflating loss in which they blew a three-score lead to Dallas on the road, snapping their four-game winning streak.

However, the loss may not have impacted their momentum much as the passing attack finally got back on track.

For all the rumblings around A.J. Brown and company, Jalen Hurts has been solid through the air. He enters this game 12th in completion percentage and 11th in yards per pass.

Hurts and Brown connected twice for touchdowns last week, and if they're reconnected here, that will only add to the concerns for the Chicago defense.

The Bears have not provided much resistance to opposing offenses, ranking 30th in yards per rush allowed and 27th in yards per pass. They've benefited greatly from turnovers — they lead the league in interceptions — but Hurts has thrown the fewest interceptions in the NFL this season.

Philly is in a great spot to make up for last week by marching down the field immediately against this poor Bears defense.

Bears vs Eagles Prediction, Betting Analysis

On paper, this has the makings of a competitive game.

Two division leaders squaring off brings plenty of intrigue. However, the spread is very telling of how fortunate the Bears have been, and of the clear disparity between them and true Super Bowl contenders like the Eagles.

Philadelphia should be motivated to right the ship after last week's loss and come out sharp at home. The same can't be said for the Bears, who have been walking a tightrope against inferior competition for weeks.

Back the Birds to be up at the end of the first quarter.

Pick: Eagles 1st Quarter Spread -0.5 (-105)
