Week 2 of the NFL preseason closes tonight with the Jets hosting the Falcons.
Atlanta is favored across the board entering this game, and having its starting quarterback healthy is likely a big reason why. While Marcus Mariota is healthy and expected to play after starting the Falcons' preseason opener, we're not even sure if Zach Wilson will feature in Week 1 of the regular season.
These two head coaches have had differing preseason success levels. While Falcons head coach Arthur Smith lost all three games last preseason and just got his first win, Robert Saleh is yet to taste defeat in games that don't matter.
Atlanta will likely let Desmond Ridder feature for most of this game, while Joe Flacco and Mike White might be fighting for a start to open the regular season, which Jets fans must love.
One of our betting analysts has his eyes on a side in this game. Sam Farley lays out his pick for Monday Night Football: Preseason Edition below.
Falcons vs. Jets Prediction
Sam Farley: Monday sees two teams meet who are both 1-0 in preseason. The Falcons and Jets both impressed in their fake-season opener, but the Jets look like a big price to win on the moneyline.
Last week when Zach Wilson went down against the Eagles, there were concerns that the former BYU man was out for the season. The good news was that the injury wasn’t too serious and it’s expected that he’ll be back in the early weeks of the regular season.
That means head coach Robert Saleh will give plenty of time tonight to Joe Flacco and Mike White, both of whom were reasonable backups when Wilson missed time last season. In fact, the competition between the two could help either perform at his best.
Falcons rookie Desmond Ridder was strong in his preseason debut and earned great reports in the joint practices with the Jets this week. Despite that, I’m backing the Jets to win at home.
This Jets team is one I’m expecting to improve a lot this season. Not only that, but Saleh is 3-0-1 as Jets head coach in the preseason.
