Dolphins vs Jets Preview, Prediction
I've been saying over the past month or so now that the Dolphins are not a good football team.
They have been playing a very easy schedule and keep skating by with these relatively unimpressive wins.
Miami won last week against the Saints, a game where QB Tua Tagovailoa completed only 12 passes to go along with zero TD passes and four sacks.
In the game before that, the Dolphins beat the Commanders by three points.
Their only good win was the victory against Buffalo in a game where the Bills laid an egg and couldn't get out of their own way.
I think that win has propped them up in the market, but this Jets team has been better with Tyrod Taylor as their quarterback.
The Jets are also more balanced now, which I think is huge because you don't want to be in a situation where your passing game is terrible and the opponents just know you're going to run — and their passing game is a little bit better now with Taylor over Justin Fields.
WR Adonai Mitchell finally put a good game together, which is big for the Jets because they've been missing Garrett Wilson, and then you still have John Metchie.
There are enough weapons for the Jets in a game like this against a Dolphins defense that is not good.
On the other side of the ball, the Jets have been underrated on defense lately.
They have been holding up well after trading Sauce Gardner to the Colts. It's just been bad luck with turnovers.
Finally, this will be a low-volume passing game.
Tight end Darren Waller is back for the Dolphins, but they still lack talent in the passing game, same as the offensive line especially in the absence of Tyreek Hill. They still lack on the back end of their defense as well.
According to Evan Abrams, in road or neutral games in December or later, Tua Tagovailoa is 3-8 SU/ATS in his career.
Dolphins vs Jets Predictions, Spread Analysis
Simply put, these are just two bad teams.
It’s a divisional game with a warm-weather team traveling to New Jersey.
Per Abrams, Tyrod Taylor is 37-21-4 ATS (63%) in his career and he is 7-0-1 ATS in eight starts since the start of 2022.
I think the Jets are a little bit undervalued in the market, and the Dolphins should pretty much never be favored by three points in a road divisional game.
In fact, I have the Dolphins barely rated any better than the Jets at this point.
Shop around of course, but I'm going with the Jets +2.5 in Week 14.
