Bears vs Seahawks Spread Prediction
By Billy Ward
Monday Night Football’s clash between the Seahawks and Bears is in many ways reminiscent of Sunday’s game between the Lions and Vikings. Both teams feature an elite offensive unit (Bears/Lions) with a fairly bad defense, taking on an elite defensive team with a less explosive offense (Seahawks/Vikings).
The Seahawks offense is nowhere near as miserable as the Vikings' – and the Bears defense is somewhat better than the Lions' – but the general principle is the same. We even have a virtually identical spread (visiting team +3) and total (46.5).
The home team (Detroit) barely covered the spread in that one, but a win is a win. I believe the Seahawks can do the same.
This game being outdoors is probably a boost for the defensive-minded team, and Seattle finally having some healthy running backs with Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price both healthy is another boost for them. That should allow them to better control the game if and when it builds a lead.
Some books have moved this line to 3.5 points so be sure to shop around if you like the Seahawks (or the Bears side for that matter). The best line on the Seahawks is -3 at -117 odds via Caesars, but I’d take any of the -3 lines.
Pick: Seahawks -3 (-117)
Bears vs Seahawks Over/Under Pick
Monday Night Football will feature a matchup of the best and worst defenses in the NFL this season on a per play basis. However, despite allowing an abundance of explosive passing plays, the Bears actually boast the league’s best third-down defense. Seattle’s elite defense ranks second in third-down defense.
Not only are both defenses excellent on third down, both rank inside the top 10 in terms of generating pressure. The Bears’ pass rush will be bolstered even further from this point forward with the addition of one of the best interior defenders in the NFL in Jeffery Simmons. I expect him to pay immediate dividends in creating interior pressure.
Sam Darnold’s passer rating under pressure this season is currently sitting at 40.7. With the Seattle rushing attack ranking 29th in expected points added (EPA), more of the offensive onus has fallen upon his shoulders this season than was the case a year ago. Darnold’s adjusted net yards per attempt of 5.2 sits below the likes of Bo Nix, Malik Willis, and Jalen Hurts.
The Bears offense is undoubtedly rounding into form, but this matchup in Seattle is simply too difficult to project them continuing to average nearly six yards per play as they have with Caleb Williams on the field. The Seahawks defense has the rare trifecta of being a top-three unit in all three key areas of defensive football — stopping the run, rushing the passer, and limiting explosive plays.
Play the under on Monday night down at any number above the key of 45 when betting totals.
Pick: Under 46.5 (-108)
AJ Barner Anytime Touchdown
If you've been following along all season, then you know I've been on AJ Barnertouchdown props most weeks — and it not worked out well at all. I'm still going to him tonight.
He's due — there are two pass catchers in the NFL with six or more red-zone targets who have not scored a receiving touchdown: Kendrick Bourne and … Barner.
Barner is the second red-zone option in this Seahawks' receiving game. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, of course, leads the team with 12 red-zone targets, Barner trails behind him with seven.
Barner is also the tush-push option and has one rushing touchdown on the season so he has two paths to a score.
I think this could be the spot Barner gets his first toucdown, but granted, I've said that before.
Pick: AJ Barner Anytime Touchdown (+255)
Jaxon Smith-Njigba Anytime Touchdown Prop
In addition to the touchdown picks I wrote up in my article, I also gave out Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the Week 8 Touchdown show.
Smith-Njigba is matchup proof and has emerged as the best receiver in the NFL this season. He's a lock for at least a 30% target share and is coming off a standout game against the Chiefs in which he racked up nine receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown.
He has both double-digit targets and a touchdown scored in five of the seven games he's played this season. He's also surpassed 100 yards in six of seven games.
Pick: Jaxon Smith-Njigba Anytime Touchdown (-105)
