New York Jets Betting Preview: Genuine Flashes of Competency
The Jets caught an unlucky break losing in overtime last week to the Packers, but a positive takeaway is that their offense showed genuine flashes of competency.
Geno Smith proved that when he has adequate pass protection — a far cry from his days behind the Raiders' turnstile offensive line — he can still deliver the football accurately. He's got two great weapons to work with in Garrett Mitchell and the rising Adonai Mitchell — running back Breece Hall also chips in quite a bit in the receiving game.
Last week, the Jets were hindered by brutal weather conditions, but playing inside Ford Field on a fast track should benefit their passing attack.
Detroit Lions Betting Preview: Identity Built on Shootouts
The Lions are laying 6.5 points at home, and I expect their offense to absolutely hum in this spot.
Jahmyr Gibbs is an elite weapon out of the backfield, and Jared Goff proved last week that he will try to orchestrate late touchdown drives regardless of the score (hitting a backdoor cover on a 4th-and-18 conversion down 17 points).
However, Detroit's defense remains a giant, glaring liability. The Lions are dealing with secondary injuries — recently losing Avonte Maddox — and they do not have the personnel to consistently get stops.
The Lions have built an identity around simply outscoring their opponents in high-octane shootouts.
Jets vs Lions Prediction, Betting Analysis
I love Over 47.5 here, and some respected sharp groups have hammered this total as well.
The Lions defense is too compromised in the secondary to shut down Geno Smith and a resurgent Jets offense, but Detroit's elite rushing attack and offensive firepower should be able to consistently put points on the board.
This game has all the makings of a fast-paced, back-and-forth track meet.
