Jets vs Titans NFL Week 1 Preview
The Jets are simply the better football team in this matchup, and they are trending in the right direction.
When you look at their roster, it’s loaded with high-end talent at the skill positions. We already know what Garrett Wilson brings to the table out wide while Adonai Mitchell is an intriguing WR2. I think Breece Hall is going to be completely fine moving the chains and controlling the tempo out of the backfield.
At quarterback, Geno Smith is looking to rebound after a dreadful season with the Raiders, where he was impacted by a poor offensive line and poor playcalling. Our Brandon Anderson notes Smith has finished .500 or better in four of six years as a starter — the bounce-back potential is real in a better environment.
But more importantly, the Jets are built to win at the line of scrimmage.
In the NFL, it starts and ends with the trenches, and New York has the personnel up front to dictate the flow of this game on both sides of the ball.
The Jets added Demario Davis, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and David Onyemata over the offseason — not to mention first-round pick David Bailey.
On the flip side, we have a Tennessee team with some glaring, fundamental flaws.
The Titans roll out what is arguably one of the worst offensive lines in the entire league (No. 31 in our rankings). That is a massive problem when you are going up against a ferocious Jets defensive front.
When you have a young, turnover-prone quarterback operating behind a porous offensive line, bad things are going to happen.
I expect the Titans offense to be under constant duress, making it incredibly difficult for them to find any sustainable rhythm or generate explosive plays down the field.
Jets vs Titans Prediction, Analysis
I don't want to use those famous betting words —"wrong team favored" — since the Jets obviously aren't going to be favored on the road in this specific spot, but I love getting the extra points here.
In a game with a low total that projects to be a low-scoring grinder coming down to the wire, getting +1.5 with the superior team is fantastic value.
Because I expect the Jets to dominate the trenches in this matchup, I will gladly back New York to win this game as well .
Pick: Jets +1.5 / Jets Moneyline (49 cents)
