Ravens vs Jaguars Preview
The Ravens (4-4) have lost three in a row and are fresh off a blowout loss against the Bills. To make matters worse, Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley were placed on injured reserve, so undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano will make his first career start on a short week in Week 9's Thursday Night Football matchup.
It's a tough matchup against the Jaguars (5-2), who just routed out the Colts. The Jags have built on last year's second-half surge, establishing themselves as one of the best teams in the AFC. Trevor Lawrence has been as efficient as ever, showing total control of Liam Coen's offense.
Even though the Ravens have home-field advantage, this has the look of a blowout win in favor of the road team.
The rest of Action Network's Thursday Night Football Coverage:
- Ravens vs Jaguars Best Bets: 4 Picks from our staff
- Ravens vs Jaguars Anytime Touchdown Scorers
- TNF Props for Lawrence, Henry & Rodriguez
I'll start my Ravens vs. Jaguars SGP with Jaguars -10. I got this earlier in the week at -8.5, but I still like it at -10. I'm mentioning this just to show you how much the line has moved in a couple of days.
The biggest key here is the quarterback mismatch.
Fagnano struggled mightily in relief of Jackson and Huntley last week, completing only 10-of-21 passes for 91 yards, averaging an abysmal 4.3 yards per attempt.
With Lawrence playing at a high level, I'm confident that the Jaguars can pull off a win by more than 10 points. Even if running back Bhayshul Tuten (game-time decision) can't play, Chris Rodriguez can handle the workload.
I'll add Derrick Henry under 66.5 rushing yards.
For one, it's going to be tough for the Ravens to sustain drives with Fagnano at the helm. That could mean short drives, with even several three-and-outs, making it difficult to get Henry going.
With the Ravens as 10-point underdogs, they're likely to be playing from behind, which can also impact Henry's rushing volume. On top of that, the Jaguars have an elite rush defense, ranking second in Rush EPA.
We'll finish it off with a Rodriguez anytime touchdown.
With Tuten banged up, we should see Rodriguez have a larger role (even if Tuten is able to play). At -110 odds, it's a bit expensive, but given the projected favorable game script, I like Rodriguez's chances of finding the end zone.
