The San Francisco 49ers rolled through the first five weeks of the seasons and a matchup against the Cleveland Browns was supposed to be anything but competitive. The 49ers closed as 9.5-point road favorites in Cleveland, but lost 19-17, a huge upset for the NFL's Super Bowl favorite.

The Niners struggled all day on offense, particularly after running back Christian McCaffrey exited Sunday’s game with an oblique injury. Still the Niners had a chance to win the game late, trailing by two points with 1:40 left in the game.

Purdy drove the 49ers down to the 23-yard line with a chance to win the game on a field goal, but Jake Moody missed the potential game-winning 41-yard field goal to seal the Niners' fate. He was a perfect 9-for-9 before today's game where he went 1-for-3.

Entering Sunday's game, road favorites of 9.5-points or more were 119-31-1 straight up. The 49ers join the Cowboys as the second road favorite this season to lose in that spot (Week 3 vs. Cardinals).

The loss was also a bad beat for public bettors. According to Action Network's public betting data, the Niners were getting 72% of the bets and 69% of the money in the matchup. Bettors who were bold enough to take the Browns moneyline found odds ranging from +360 at DraftKings to +425 at PointsBet.
