Seattle Seahawks Betting Preview: The Champs are Hobbling
The reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks largely emphasized surrounding QB Sam Darnold with some additional playmakers on the offensive side of the football, starting with the extension of speedy wideout and return specialist Rashid Shaheed.
On that same note, Seattle also lost the reigning Super Bowl MVP in free agency, Kenneth Walker III to Kansas City.
The Seahawks front office was quick on the trigger following Walker’s departure with the team drafting running back Jadarian Price in the first round of the NFL Draft. Price, however, is being held out for precautionary reasons until the season starts.
Seattle was able to retain the majority of its 2025 Super Bowl defense, though it lost key defensive backs Coby Bryant and Riq Woolen.
To counter those losses, the Seahawks selected safety Bud Clark and cornerback Julian Neal in the second and third round of the Draft. However, Neal has missed all of camp with an injury, and Clark broke his ankle against the Titans last week.
Seahawks backup QBs Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe saw considerable reps in both of their first two contests. Lock looked lights out against Tennessee's starters last week, while Milroe struggled against second- and third-stringers.
Kansas City Chiefs Betting Preview: A Retool in K.C.
In what was an off-year for the Chiefs following Patrick Mahomes’ knee injury that led to Kansas City finishing the season with a 6-11 overall record, head coach Andy Reid led the charge in surrounding his franchise QB with some additional offensive playmakers.
Newly acquired Kenneth Walker III will get the chance to face his former squad on Friday evening, albeit in limited action. The Chiefs will likely see what they have in their backup running backs — fifth-rounder Emmett Johnson and Brashard Smith.
On the defensive side of the football, Kansas City lost star CB Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams in addition to both Jaylen Watson and Bryan Cook, thus requiring some key additions to revamp its secondary.
In doing so, the Chiefs selected former LSU CB Mansoor Delane, who I expect to make an immediate impact. Kansas City also signed safety Alohi Gilman to a three-year deal, as well as CB Kader Kohou on a one-year deal.
Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was reported to have played a vital role in the team’s selecting DT Peter Woods out of Clemson, adding a high-upside edge rusher to its defensive front.
In the second round, Kansas City picked DE R Mason Thomas, who I also expect to make an immediate impact for a now relatively young Chiefs defense that is in a restructuring period.
To backup Mahomes, the Chiefs acquired Justin Fields via trade, and also selected Garrett Nussmeier in the Draft.
Seahawks vs Chiefs Prediction, Betting Analysis
In a matchup featuring two teams that could not have had more polar opposite 2025 campaigns, I expect both teams to be very motivated for a victory looking to evade a 0-3 preseason record prior to the start of the regular season.
From a betting perspective, I'm willing to take a shot on the Chiefs to reign supreme on Friday night as I expect them to be the far more motivated of the two teams considering their 2025 shortcomings.
Kansas City will also be playing in the comfort of its home stadium at Arrowhead Stadium, which should add somewhat of an edge as well.
