Hurricanes vs. Flyers Preview
Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina didn’t need to prove that it’s the best team in the East, but it did after coming back from an early 2-0 deficit to the Flyers.
It was clear that the Hurricanes were a little thrown off from the jump that Philadelphia had to start the game.
And even though Nikolaj Ehlers scored a goal to bring the deficit down to 2-1, it was still clear that the Flyers had the Canes on their heels in the first period.
But once that second period hit, it was a different ball game. Carolina still had to figure out Dan Vladar, who was a total beauty all game, but at 5-on-5, the Canes were the better team.
I’ll be curious how the Canes do once they step foot in Philly. It’ll be a hostile environment, but nothing that they haven’t seen before.
Aside from the first period of Game 2, Carolina has dominated 5-on-5 this whole series and Round 1. When it went down in the first period, that was the first time all playoffs that the Canes trailed all playoffs.
A lot of it has to do with Freddie Andersen, who’s been a total brick wall. I was concerned about him heading into the playoffs, but he
Philadelphia Flyers
Vladar is going to be the deciding factor for the Flyers unless the rest of the team decides to wake up.
To their credit, they have spread the wealth quite a bit. Twent- one players have suited up in these playoffs and 15 of them have registered a goal.
From a depth perspective, I’m definitely encouraged. But I need to see more from Philly’s top guys in Travis Konecny and Trevor Zegras, who only have a goal each in eight games played.
On Tuesday, captain Sean Couturier was the guy who took charge, with a 1.05 expected goals rate, leading the team, and defenseman Jamie Drysdale, who kicked off the goal scoring in game two.
Vladar has been a stud all season, including the playoffs, so I’m not worried about him. Behind Andersen, he’s second in GSAx, posting an 8.,2 which is elite.
I’m very much worried about how the Flyers will sustain any sort of 5-on-5 success, and it’s something that will ultimately keep them from winning Game 3.

Hurricanes vs. Flyers Prediction
The books know good value when they see it.
Both games went under 5.5 goals, and if the goaltending lets up again, it seems like this will be another tight-checking game.
I picked the under to hit last game, and was sweating a little bit once Philly scored two quick goals, but the boys came in clutch and held steady.
I don’t love the value of under 5.5 at -142, but it’s better than either of the options here. I fully expect this to be tight checking, featuring superstar performances by the goaltenders.
Pick: Under 5.5 (-142, DraftKings)
