A new CNN/SSRS poll landed Wednesday, and it lines up with most recent national surveys: voters are tilting toward Democrats with about six weeks left until Election Day.

The open question for traders is how much of that shift is already in the price. Be sure to read our Polymarket review that explains how the platform works, and don't forget to download the Action Network app for more picks and analysis.

2026 Midterms on Polymarket

Polymarket lists questions about future events, such as which party will control the Senate. Each outcome has a share price between 0 and 100 cents, and you can read that price as the market's estimate of the chance. At 65 cents, the implied probability is about 65%. Correct shares settle at $1, and the rest settle at zero. Prices move in real time as traders react to news, so today's number can look very different by November.

What the CNN Poll Found

The survey, conducted September 16-17 among 1,206 adults, has Democrats leading the generic congressional ballot by 8 points. Democrats had a bigger cushion, 12 points, in CNN's September survey of the 2018 cycle, but CNN describes Donald Trump as "even more unpopular than he was in 2018."

The economy is the weak spot. Trump's approval on the issue is 27%, and 28% of Americans rate current conditions as good. Compared with 2018, those readings are 22 and 41 points lower, respectively. The topic also carries weight: about two in three registered voters say it is critical to how they will vote. More than four in ten say their vote for Congress is a rebuke of Trump.

NPR/PBS News/Marist found a similar picture, with Democrats leading by 12 points among registered voters.

Where the Markets Stand Now

  • House control: Democrats are heavy favorites, with the price above 9-to-1. The crowd has mostly settled this one, and more than $12 million has traded.
  • Senate control: Democrats hold roughly two-thirds, with about $5 million traded. About two weeks ago, this market looked close to a coin flip.
  • Balance of power: The combined market for both chambers has also leaned toward a Democratic sweep.

A price that high in the House leaves little room for the favorite to gain, so the Senate is where views differ most.

Why These Markets Matter This Week

The Senate is still being debated. Analysts at Piper Sandler recently raised their odds of a Democratic Senate majority to the mid-40s, according to Fortune. That sits well below the market price. When a forecast and a market disagree by that much, one side has to adjust before November, and that gap gives traders something to work with.

The map is tough: Republicans hold 53 of 100 Senate seats, so Democrats need a net gain of four to reach 51. A national poll lead helps, but it has to show up state by state.

New data keeps arriving: Two major national polls were released Wednesday, and more surveys and campaign news will follow before November 3. Each release can move prices.

What Could Change

Prices are not guarantees. Polls carry a margin of error, 3.5 points in CNN's full sample, and opinion is divided on whether a Democratic win would change household costs. A position that looks strong today can lose value if turnout, the map or the news cycle shifts.

The Bottom Line

With new polling out, a Senate price that has moved quickly and about six weeks to go, the House and Senate control markets on Polymarket deserve a look before the next round of surveys arrives.
