Ajax vs. Villarreal
Villarreal have just one point from their six Champions League matches so far this season. However, they have looked more dangerous on home turf. As a result, we are backing them to beat this lacklustre Ajax side.
Ajax have conceded an average of three goals per game in the Champions League, failing to keep a single clean sheet. That rises to 3.67 goals per game if we only include the data from their away matches.
Villarreal were unfortunate not to beat Copenhagen on matchday six. The Spanish side finished the game with 11 more shots and a greater xG (expected goals) than their opponents. The last time Ajax played away in Spain was in November 2024. They were beaten 2-0 by Sociedad, and this game should play out similarly.
Pick: Villarreal To Win
Napoli vs. F.C. København
These teams enter this game level on points, and a win would be a massive boost to their hopes of making it into the top 24. Napoli have struggled in their Champions League away matches thus far, but they have faced tougher opponents than Copenhagen. Therefore, we are backing Antonio Conte’s team to win this hugely important game.
Bayer Leverkusen vs. Olympiacos
Leverkusen have produced their best football on the road in the Champions League. As a result, we are backing them to win here despite Kasper Hjulmand’s side being a slight underdog.
Leverkusen beat Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad in their last away match in this competition. Kasper Hjulmand’s side has also recorded an away win over Benfica. Both of those teams are above Olympiacos in the league phase.
Since the start of the 2023/2024 season, Olympiacos have competed in the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League, but their record against teams competing in Europe’s top five leagues during that run has been poor. The Greek side has played 10 games against teams from those divisions during that period, losing six and conceding 1.1 more goals per game than they have scored.
Pick: Leverkusen To Win
Borussia Dortmund vs. Tottenham
The odds suggest this will be a close game, but we are siding with Dortmund, who are marginal underdogs, as they take on a Tottenham team that has been in turmoil in recent months.
Dortmund has picked up 11 points in the Champions League. Although much of their good work has been on home turf, they have scored nine goals across their three away matches in the league phase. This level of attacking output could be enough to beat Spurs.
Tottenham have won all three of their home matches in this competition so far. However, their opponents have been much weaker than Dortmund, with those three teams picking up just 11 points from a collective 18 league phase matches,
