The PGA Tour season continues this week with the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minn.

A week after the final major of the season across the pond in Northern Ireland, a majority of the top players in the world are taking the week off as they prepare for their push in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

That leads to a wide-open field as the highest-ranked player competing this week is Maverick McNealy, who is 11th in the world. In total, there are just 10 players ranked in the top 50 competing in the 3M Open.

There are a pair of co-favorites in this field, with Chris Gotterup and Sam Burns both checking in at +1800 at DraftKings. Gotterup won the Scottish Open two weeks ago before turning in a fine performance in the Open Championship last week.

With a lot of unknowns this week picking an outright winner might be tricky, but I've got a few in mind. Continue reading for my 3M Open picks and golf best bets this weekend.

3M Open Picks

Maverick McNealy

Outright (+2000 · 0.5u) · Top 10 (+250 · 1u)

Header Trailing Logo

Maverick McNealy has been playing some solid golf as of late, and a little bit of added incentive of making his case for the Ryder Cup team could finally lead to a win here in a weaker field event.

McNealy ranks 14th or better in this field in SG: Approach, SG: Tee-to-Green, and SG: OTT over the last six months. He also ranks second in total strokes gained, and he has had some success here in the past as he finished T3 last year at the 3M Open.

Akshay Bhatia

Outright (+4000 · 0.5u) · Top 20 (+200 · 1u)

Header Trailing Logo

I have already backed Akshay Bhatia a few times this season, so let's go right back to him here in what should be a great course fit for him as approach play and accuracy off the tee is going to be vital.

Bhatia ranks third in this field in my approach model while also ranking 24th in driving accuracy.

His irons are in great form right now, as he has gained strokes on approach in six straight events and is first in this field in SG: Approach over the last 20 rounds.

Kurt Kitayama

Outright (+4000 · 0.25u) · Top 20 (+200 · 1u)

Header Trailing Logo

Kurt Kitayama is certainly one of the better ball strikers in the field, that can't really be denied. He ranks fifth in SG: approach and 10th in SG: OTT over the last year.

His big issue is with the putter, but he has shown some life on the greens lately that has led to four finishes inside the top 25 over his last seven events.

He also has two T5 finishes in that span, showing he is in good enough form to contend.

Emiliano Grillo

Outright (+5000 · 0.25u) · Top 20 (+225 · 1u)

Header Trailing Logo

Emiliano Grillo almost came through for us a few weeks ago when he lost in a playoff, but this is another great course fit for him as approach play and accuracy are going to be key factors this week.

Grillo ranks 25th in SG: approach and 12th in driving accuracy in this field, and his putting also remains in good form as he is 36th in SG: Putting over his last 20 rounds.

Andrew Putnam

Outright (+7000 · 0.2u) · Top 20 (+280 · 1u)

Header Trailing Logo

Andrew Putnam is coming off a strong finish at the Barracuda last week where he finished T11. That is the fourth time in his last seven full events (he WD from one) in which he had a T15 finish or better.

Distance shouldn't be too much of an advantage here this week, which sets up very well for Putnam, who is top 10 in this field in both SG: Approach and driving accuracy over the last year.
