The 2025 John Deere classic tees off on this Fourth of July weekend from TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
Two-time 2025 winner Ben Griffin enters this weekend's event as the favorite at +1600, followed by Jason Day (+2500), Denny McCarthy (+2500), J.T. Poston (+3000) and Si Woo Kim (+3000).
It's also worth noting that Rickie Fowler (+5000) is back in the field at Deere Run for the first time in 15 years, as is defending champion Davis Thompson (+3000).
Seven of the top 50 golfers in the world will compete this week, with Griffin leading the field at No. 17 and Sungjae Im (No. 25) sitting shortly behind.
With plenty of action in store, let's dive into my 2025 John Deere Classic picks and PGA Tour predictions forthis week's event.
2025 John Deere Classic Picks
McCarthy is coming off a good finish at the Travelers when he finished T12, and I think this is a great fit for him this week at what should be a wedge and putting contest.
McCarthy ranks 20th in SG: Approach and sixth in SG: Putting in this field, so this kind of event and course typically sets up really well for him.
That makes sense, as he has had a ton of success here in the past, racking up three straight finishes of T7 or better.
It looked like Luke Clanton was going to have a good chance to be in contention last week at the Rocket Classic, but he followed up his 66-67 start with a horrible Saturday 77 that put him out of contention very quickly.
Still, it was nice to see him bounce back with a 69 on Sunday.
Clanton is a great fit for this event, as he's among the best ball strikers in this field and also ranks seventh in Birdie or Better percentage and sixth in total strokes gained on easy courses over the last two years.
Coody gets the call up to the PGA Tour this week after tearing up the Korn Ferry Tour in recent weeks.
He has finished T25 or better in his last two PGA starts as well, and he now gets to play in a much weaker field where he has a real chance to contend.
He has also shown real upside in competing in these birdie-fest type of events, ranking inside the top 10 in Birdie or Better percentage in this field.
His main weakness is his approach play, but that should be mitigated here because he'll likely have much shorter shots into the greens at this course.
Ryan Gerard is someone who really stands out in my model, as he's one of the better approach players in this field, ranking seventh in SG: Approach.
His putter has been a bit of a letdown at times, as it has been for him over his last handful of events, but there's no question that he'll have a ton of birdie looks if he can get it going with the flat stick.
Grillo fell apart on the weekend in Detroit, shooting himself out of the tournament with a 70 followed by a 75. However, he played really well on Thursday and Friday.
I think this is a great course fit for him here. His real weakness around the green won’t be put into play too much because hitting greens in regulation should be very easy to do at this course.
Grillo is in great form with his approach play, ranking third in this field over the last 20 rounds.
Valimaki can be a hot and cold player, but we've seen several times that when he's on, he can put himself in contention.
He finished T7 in Myrtle Beach, fourth at the Houston Open, and he's coming off a T19 finish last week where he shot 68 or better for four straight days.
Valimaki is a great fit here, ranking top-10 in this field in SG: Putting and SG: Approach over the last six months.
