Collin Whitchurchs’s Diamondbacks vs Giants Prediction, Betting Analysis
My guy, Nabil Crismatt, is on the mound for the Diamondbacks. If you're unfamiliar with him, I don't blame you. His career has been circuitous, to say the least. He signed as an amateur free agent with the Mets back in 2011 when he was 16.
Since then, he's been part of a long list of organizations: the Mariners, Cardinals, Padres, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Rangers, Padres again, Phillies, and now the Diamondbacks for a second time. So that's two stops in San Diego and now his second stint in Arizona.
He's only thrown around 170 career innings entering this season, almost all of which came in 2021–22 with the Padres. Back then, he was actually a pretty solid reliever. Now in Arizona, he's occupying a rotation spot and has made three starts and four appearances.
He's been pretty good. He's a sinkerballer who does a solid job keeping the ball on the ground. He throws a ton of changeups and allows just a .205 batting average on that pitch.
Crismatt barely reaches 90 mph—he's averaging about 88 mph on his fastball this year—so he relies on deception and movement, which works sometimes. I think this is a decent spot to buy him against a Giants offense that ranks in the bottom five of the league in hard-hit rate. Seems like a good recipe for a wily 30-year-old veteran journeyman to carve them up.
On the other side, Logan Webb is an ace, one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball. I have no problem backing him to shut down the Diamondbacks tonight.
Both bullpens scare me a little, but I'm comfortable enough fading these offenses to see value in the under 7.5 total runs tonight in San Francisco.
Pick: Under 7.5 (-105, Fanatics)
