Dodgers vs Padres MLB Betting Preview

Los Angeles Dodgers Betting Preview

Thanks to another comeback win on Tuesday, the Dodgers reclaimed a half-game lead in the division entering this pivotal rubber match.

They will look to further their division lead with Shohei Ohtani on the mound. He's done extremely well at the mound this season after an extended leave from pitching.

Ohtani holds a 2.32 xERA, has struck out 10.23 batters per nine and has effectively commanded his strong five-pitch mix, while holding a Stuff+ rating of 115.

Though Ohtani's splits have held on to real weakness this season, he has been particularly sharp working through the order for the first time. He's posting a strikeout minus walk-rate of 30.9% working first time through the order, and allowed a WHIP of just 0.66.

The Dodgers lineup will offer a tough test for Padres starter Randy Vasquez, as they currently rank second in MLB with a wRC+ of 118 versus righties, after finishing fourth with a wRC+ of 114 versus righties in 2025. They also rank fifth in BB/K ratio versus righties and first in hard-hit rate.

San Diego Padres Betting Preview

After a breakout 2025 campaign in which he pitched to a 3.84 ERA across 133 and 2/3 innings, Vasquez has enjoyed an excellent start to the season with a 2.68 ERA across his first 50 and 1/3 IP.

He has outperformed his 3.88 xFIP somewhat significantly, while nobody would ever count on a sub-3.00 ERA from Vasquez to begin with, but he has outperformed his underlying metrics in every season of his MLB career thus far.

Vasquez has been quite effective when working through the order for the first time, striking out 28.4% of batters and holding an xFIP of 3.04 when handling the order for the first time.

Despite their excellent record where it counts, the Padres are off to a fairly modest start offensively. They rank 26th with a wRC+ of 90 and hold a wRC+ of 94 versus righties specifically. They also rank 22nd in xwOBA and have struck out 23.1% of the time.

If Fernando Tatis, Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado start offering more power, the lineup could still prove to be quite deep, but the team has leaned pretty heavily on its less prominent bats in order to find a modest level of offensive success thus far.

Dodgers vs Padres Pick, Betting Analysis

Both starters have been highly effective thus far this season, and Vasquez, in particular, has been holding notably better underlying metrics when working through the order for the first time.

Having to fade the top of the Dodgers lineup won't be entirely fun, but a price of -118 for no runs in the first inning still sets up as a strong play given how batters have struggled early on versus Vasquez, while Ohtani has been outright dominant, and the top of the Padres lineup has not been overly productive this season.

Pick: NRFI (-122, FanDuel | Play to -125)
