Charlie Wright’s Rays vs Orioles Preview
Ryan Pepiot had an uneven April, but he's been rolling recently.
He has a 2.37 ERA across 10 starts since the beginning of May, and he hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in a single start since April 15th. This is the first season he’s on track to post above-average Stuff+ and Location+ marks.
This might be the best version of Pepiot we’ve seen.
Conversely, Tomoyuki Sugano's weak underlying metrics are finally catching up to him.
He's been knocked around this month, posting a 4.58 ERA across four starts. Sugano's xERA (4.98) and SIERA (4.60) are still more than a run higher than his actual ERA (3.55). That mark will likely continue to rise.
The Rays have been one of the hottest offenses in the league. They rank among the top three MLB lineups in OPS, wOBA and wRC+ against right-handed pitching over the past month.
