- The NL's best team meets the league's worst when the Dodgers host the Nationals on Tuesday night.
- The mismatch is reflected in the betting lines, but we can find some value in a same game parlay.
- Below, Nick Shlain shares his three legs for tonight's MLB SGP.
Washington Nationals vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Odds
Even without ace pitcher Walker Buehler this season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are once again leading the National League in victories. The Dodgers also had to put left-handed pitcher Julio Urias on the injured list recently, but Los Angeles remains in first place in the NL West division by a game and a half over the Arizona Diamondbacks entering play Tuesday.
The Washington Nationals, on the other hand, are in last place in the NL East division and have the fewest wins in the NL this year.
Can the Nationals pull off the upset in Los Angeles tonight?
The Parlay (+310):
- Over 9
- Freddie Freeman 2+ Total Bases
- Dodgers -1.5
Same-Game Parlay – Nationals vs. Dodgers
I really like this over. The Nationals are starting Jake Irvin, who has a a 5.92 xFIP. The Dodgers are starting Tony Gonsolin, who has a 5.61 xFIP. The Nationals have the ninth-worst bullpen in all of baseball with a bullpen ERA of 4.45. The Dodgers have the sixth-worst bullpen in all of baseball with a bullpen ERA of 4.52. The Dodgers are fourth in all of baseball scoring 5.72 runs per game at home. The Nationals are ninth in all of baseball scoring 4.81 runs per game on the road. We should see some offensive fireworks in this one.
Freddie Freeman 2+ Total Bases
Freddie Freeman has the best matchup in this game. Jake Irvin has an 18% strikeout percentage, 15% walk percentage, and 39% ground ball percentage. He's also allowed a .250 ISO to left-handed hitters this season. Freeman has a .198 ISO against right-handed pitchers since the beginning of last year. He's been crushing the ball at home this year. Freeman has hit .368 with four home runs at Dodgers Stadium this year. He can cover this leg of the same game parlay with a double or two singles, which should be easy for him in this matchup.
I like the Dodgers in this one. It's hard not to like the best team in the NL against the worst team in the NL. The Dodgers are also at home here, and they have the advantage at starting pitcher in this game. While Tony Gonsolin's xFIP is quite high, his ERA is 1.82 in his six starts this year. Gonsolin has actually out-pitched his xFIP by over a full run in his major league career as he has a career 2.44 ERA and a career 4.14 xFIP. Behind another good performance from Gonsolin and the Dodgers offense at home, Los Angeles runs away with this one in the last leg of our same game parlay.
