Garland/Strus are both out, which makes Zo the secondary BH/facilitator after Mitchell. Zo will be in that Ty Jerome role from last season that we always played when one of Mitchell/Garland were out and his assist lines were usually set to 4.5/5.5 and Zo is a much better passer/facilitator. In preseason, Zo has had games of 9 and 3 AST when playing 15+ minutes. He got up to 20 MIN in the last preseason game and with how thin CLE are to start (Hunter questionable) he could see upwards of 25 MIN. His minutes will stagger with Mitchell making him the lead BH at times, fully running the offense. After the last preseason game, Atkinson had a ton of praise for Lonzo’s passing ability and floor vision. He also said he wants Zo taking those risks with his passing. Mike Brown also wants the Knicks to play faster, which will open up more transition looks and possessions in the game.

The Knicks start off the season against the Cleveland Cavaliers and will be without both Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson. They also have a new coach in Mike Brown as this team tries to find a new identity. KAT’s role in the offense is a bit in flux but that’s also because he’s going to be used different under Brown than he was under Thibs. I expect a few more possessions with him as a hub offensively which should help the dimes as well as giving him opportunities to score off the dribble. Without Mitch and Hart, he should dominate on the glass for New York even with the Cavs double big lineup. While there may be reduced minutes under Brown, I don’t expect it to take him below 32 minutes per game. I’ll back KAT in the opener.
