Nets vs Hornets NBA Preview
A lot of people think these will be two of the three worst teams in the Eastern Conference.
I agree with half of that. The Nets should be bad.
In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they're the bottom of the barrel in the entire league.
But Charlotte? Not so fast. This team has real talent.
LaMelo Ball is an All-NBA level talent who has been an All-Star but has had a career marred by health issues, lackluster teammates and unserious shot selection.
Brandon Miller projects to be a future All-Star and potential All-NBA wing if he puts it all together, with a ceiling that would at least rival Ball's, if not exceed it, because of his two-way potential.
And the Hornets, on paper, have a fairly competent if not an intriguing supporting cast, highlighted by the efficient scoring of Collins Sexton, the plug-and-play No. 4 overall selected rookie Kon Knueppel, and of course, the athleticism of Miles Bridges, even though… ya know.
Is this team good? I wouldn't say that. But did I bet them over 25.5 wins earlier this summer? Yes.
Did I sprinkle on 30 plus wins at about 2-to-1 odds? Absolutely.
Did I take a stab at them to make the Play-In at +800? Sure did.
They're widely expected to finish 13th in the East, but I think they're one of the underrated what ifs in the NBA's lesser conference, who have the right coach in Charles Lee, and with some — at last — fortunate health luck, can be a pleasant surprise who punches above their weight.
Nets vs Hornets Prediction, Betting Analysis
Let's start by putting our money where our mouth is and take Brandon Miller at over 19.5 points.
This is a number I don't mind at 20.5, but I grabbed it at over 19.5 points.
I think Miller is a breakout candidate, having shown flashes last year of being a potentially dynamic three-level scorer who should have better context this season than in his previous two, especially if Ball is healthy.
This is a number I could see climbing quickly into the season, unless Miller is off to a slow start.
At FanDuel, you can also sprinkle on Miller to be the game's leading scorer at +500, which I may do.
Pick: Brandon Miller Over 19.5 Points (-110)
