Hornets vs Nets NBA Preview

These are two teams that I'll be watching more closely than most.

The Nets and Hornets may be fighting for a Play-In spot, perhaps the same one, but both have rosters that are worth monitoring when surveying the Eastern Conference's near future.

There's a lot to like here, from the coaching staffs to the rosters, and both are at pivotal points in their builds where tanking is no longer an option.

Progress needs to be seen now — especially from Brooklyn, whose 2025 first-round picks are all still major question marks, Egor Demin less so — and the same also applies to the Hornets, who jettisoned their previous franchise pillar, LaMelo Ball, to invest in their future and Naz Reid.

I have no idea how Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle will look as teammates in a regular-season sample size.

We have some injury concerns here, mainly with Charlotte.

Coby White (calf), Kon Knueppel (hamstring), and Grant Williams (hamstring) could all miss the start of the season and have been dealing with these injuries all preseason.

Grayson Allen (knee) and Moussa Diabate (elbow) both sat the team's preseason finale last Friday. Neither is expected to be out, as of this writing.

Nets first-rounder (in 2026) Joshua Jefferson (back) has no timetable.

Hornets vs Nets Pick, Betting Analysis

I want to be clear: I'd target exactly these two dudes even if White and K2 were out there, though I'd expect slightly lower numbers.

But still, Brandon Miller is the guy here. No Kon. I know that everyone thinks Knueppel is the team's best player, but it's going to be Miller, as long as he can stay healthy — and Reid is arguably the most underrated offseason addition in the NBA.

We all know how good Reid is, and he hasn't even been a starter for most of his career.

Over on both. Miller over 24.5 points or 25+ and Reid over 16.5 points.

I think they'll both average around these numbers for the season, so I have no problem starting here. The opportunities will be there.

Pick 1: Brandon Miller Over 24.5 Points (-109, DraftKings)

Pick 2: Naz Reid Over 16.5 Points (-104, FanDuel)
