Hornets vs Trail Blazers NBA Preview
The Charlotte Hornets come into tonight's game in Portland having lost two straight for the first time in nearly one month, and only the third time this calendar year.
That might not sound that impressive because it's six losses, but it truly is remarkable considering the elite net rating and overall offense/defense since the calendar flipped to the new year.
Even now, the Hornets are 16-5 since this part of the run began after falling to 16-28 on January 21 in a nationally televised loss to Cleveland, where nobody could hit a shot.
Since around the same time, January 23 to be exact, the Trail Blazers are just 8-11.
Although, the Blazers are 4-2 in their last six home games, with losses coming to Denver and Minnesota.
Injuries for the Hornets include: Coby White (calf), Tidjane Salaun (calf) and Liam McNeeley (ankle), who are all out.
For Portland, we have Shaedon Sharpe (calf) and Damian Lillard (Achilles) both out.
Hornets vs Trail Blazers Predictions, Betting Analysis
I think we'll see Charlotte bounce back here. They are an NBA-best 40-25 against the spread this season.
The Hornets are:
- 1st ATS in non-conference games (15-8)
- 2nd ATS on the road (22-12)
- 3rd ATS on equal rest (25-13)
- 4th ATS after a loss (20-12)
- 8th ATS as a road favorite (7-4)
Charlotte has been better lately, and the Hornets are great in unconventional spots.
Meanwhile, Portland is 12-8 against the spread as a home underdog. The Blazers just aren't the better team.
Ever since he started missing time due to injury, Deni Avdija is down to about 16-7-6 in his last nine games, on shooting 43-28-82 splits (with generous rounding).
Portland isn't the same team with Deni grinding his way to fewer and fewer productive possessions.
The Hornets should take care of business if they are a true threat to make the playoffs, and I believe they are one.
Pick: Hornets -3 (-110)
