Pacers vs Grizzlies NBA Preview
I'm fading the Indiana Pacers' offense tonight, and the main reason is the absence of Tyrese Haliburton.
Haliburton is the undisputed offensive engine for this team — the straw that stirs the drink. Without him on the floor, Indiana's entire analytical profile craters.
Despite the Pacers naturally being a high-paced team (8th in the league), their pace drops by a massive 2.6 possessions per game when Haliburton sits — their offensive rating plummets from an efficient 115.5 with him on the floor to an abysmal 108.4 with him off.
If you exclude one outlier game against a horrible Miami defense, they are averaging just 101 points per game without their star point guard. Turnovers go up, isolation plays increase, and the assist points vanish.
The Pacers also have three other key players listed as questionable — including Kelly Oubre, Obi Toppin, and Ivica Zubac — and while they aren't quite as important as Haliburton, they are still crucial pieces for this Indiana offense.
The Memphis Grizzlies are currently operating at the 11th-fastest pace in the NBA, and their defense has been very stout.
When you think of Memphis right now, you might think of their offensive pieces, but their defensive front is huge and they absolutely control the glass.
Between Zach Edey, Cam Boozer, and some of their other physical bigs, the Grizzlies provide a nice deterrent in the paint for opposing slashers.
Looking at the season-long metrics, only one team has managed to go over their team total against this Memphis defense, and that was only because the game went into overtime against the Pelicans.
The Grizzlies are perfectly equipped to grind a Haliburton-less Pacers team into the mud.
Pacers vs Grizzlies Pick, Betting Analysis
The overall game total sits at 230.5, but I prefer to isolate Indiana's offensive struggles. I'm targeting the Pacers Team Total Under 112 tonight.
The Pacers are just 3-5 to the team total over this season, and two of those three overs came in games where Haliburton actually played. Indiana is playing a slower, isolation-heavy style that suppresses scoring opportunities.
Against a Memphis defense that locks down the interior and dominates the glass, Indiana is going to have a tough time finding consistent offense in this game.
Pick: Pacers Team Total Under 112 (-118)
