Magic vs Raptors NBA Preview
The Orlando Magic are dealing with some notable injury issues right now, specifically missing Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs.
Banchero was playing phenomenal basketball to start this season, but we have to remember that last season he actually graded out as a net-negative player in certain impact metrics.
As for Suggs, he unfortunately misses so much time that this Orlando roster already knows exactly how to play and adapt without him on the floor.
Even without those two guys, I strongly believe the Magic are a young, hungry team that legitimately wants to compete and make noise in the NBA Cup.
The Toronto Raptors have looked surprisingly awesome to start the year despite dealing with their own missing pieces.
The Raptors are playing hard, executing their system, and causing problems for opponents.
I fully understand why the market is showing them respect at home in this tournament setting, but I just don't necessarily agree with where this specific line is positioned based on the overall talent discrepancy, even factoring in Orlando's injuries.
Magic vs Raptors Pick, Analysis
My play here is the Magic +5.5. I am just not confident that the absences of Banchero and Suggs are worth as many points to the spread as they are currently being accounted for by the market.
My personal numbers only make this game Raptors -2.5 in a vacuum, meaning all of the value lies on Orlando as a 5.5-point underdog.
When you can get a competitive, well-coached defensive team like Orlando catching points in a tournament game they actively care about, you take the value.
I'm backing the Magic here.
Pick: Magic +5.5 (49 cents)
