Suns vs Thunder Spread Prediction
This spread moved a point from open down from Thunder -15.5.
Devin Booker is questionable. That can indicate he’ll play, but teams have started to be more inconsistent with that upgrade-to-active trend.
I get it, the Thunder are 9-8 ATS as double-digit favorites. But they’re only 4-4 ATS as a 14.5-point favorite or more (it’s ridiculous they have already been a 14.5-point favorite eight times).
One of those games was against the Suns, and the Suns covered. The other teams were the Mavericks, Blazers, Jazz, Kings, Pelicans, Hornets and Wizards. So, the dregs.
I make this line Thunder -9.6 with priors that expected Phoenix to be worse, and only Thunder -4.9 with in-season data, based on Isaiah Hartenstein (who leads the league in defensive DPM) being out.
I can’t get around to wanting to bet Suns on the moneyline, because I’m a coward.
The reality is that the Thunder are a dominant defensive squad, but the Suns have consistently outperformed expectations. They are 16-8 ATS this season, though only 5-5 on the road — and 1-3 ATS as a double-digit favorite.
But this line is insane. This is the most a team in the in-season tournament knockout stages has been favored by — and almost double, for that matter.
I’ll go ahead and bank on the Suns, in a high motivation spot, keeping this game from being a complete blowout.
Pick: Suns +14.5
Suns vs Thunder Player Prop Pick
The Suns’ pick-and-roll defense is pretty poor, ranking 21st in the league.
Mitchell averages 3.2 more points per game against teams that are bottom-10 in the league in pick-and-roll defense.
It’s a good spot to back an over.
I project the game over too, but won’t play it based on OKC’s defense, but this is a good opportunity.
Pick: Ajay Mitchell Over 9.5 Points
