Tennessee State vs. Iowa State Analysis
If you’re begging for a path to a 15-seed upset, this one doesn't have the math on paper.
Tennessee State wins by pressuring opponents into turnovers and ranks 12th in the country in steal rate. In doing so, the Tigers commit a ton of fouls and send teams to the foul line at a high rate.
Iowa State is merely mediocre at avoiding live-ball turnovers. The Cyclones are top-70 in avoiding all turnovers, but top-10 in avoiding non-steal turnovers, per KenPom.
The Cyclones coughed up 10-plus steals to opponents like Alcorn State, Eastern Illinois, and Long Beach State, but still won by 25-plus in each of those games.
That’s in part because they simply force their own turnovers, ranking fourth in the country in that stat.
It’s far more likely that Tennessee State looks lost against the stingy Clones than Nolan Smith’s guys scaring Iowa State.
