Auburn Tigers Betting Preview: Golesh & Brown Link Up

This year marks a new era for the Auburn Tigers program, as they brought in head coach Alex Golesh to take over for Hugh Freeze, who won just 15 of 34 games in three years.

Golesh gained a great reputation as a sharp offensive mind during a very successful three-year stint as head coach at USF.

He's done a stellar job installing an explosive “veer and shoot” offensive scheme, which is a more modern spread offense that uses extreme WR splits and a fast tempo to stress defenses both horizontally and vertically.

After successfully implementing his offensive style at USF with Byrum Brown, Golseh brought the elite dual-threat quarterback with him.

While the Tigers are off to a great start with Brown under center — winning three of their first four games — the quarterback's transition to the SEC has been one plagued by highs and lows.

Though Brown has undoubtedly conveyed his outright talent and statistical upside, he's also remained very susceptible to making mistakes, throwing five interceptions in just four games.

Brown has racked up nearly 900 yards through the air with six passing touchdowns. In addition, he's also recorded 237 rushing yards with three scores.

Fellow USF transfer Keshaun Singleton has been vital to Brown’s success, with the wideout catching 22 passes for 268 receiving yards.

Defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin boasts an aggressive, fast-paced, and physical defensive scheme that predominantly features a 3-3-5 base defense, but also successfully implements other variations depending on personnel and circumstance.

Aside from a loss to Florida that resulted in the Tigers’ defense surrendering 39 points, Durkin’s unit has collectively allowed that same number of points in its other three games.

Though Durkin was able to retain All-American LB Xavier Atkins — who led the SEC with 17 tackles for loss while also recording 84 tackles and nine sacks in 2025 — he lost several key starters in his front seven. It seems like the Tigers' defense has rebounded nicely, though.

Tennessee Volunteers Betting Preview: Brandon's High Hopes

Tennessee prepares to host Auburn following a heart-breaking loss to college football’s top-ranked Texas Longhorns in devastating fashion after recovering an onside kick in the final minute of play.

This is a borderline must-win game for the Vols, who look to evade consecutive conference home losses.

Tennessee true freshman QB Faizon Brandon has been remarkable in his first four games, racking up nearly 700 passing yards while also throwing seven TD passes without a single turnover.

Tennessee junior RB DeSean Bishop continues to shine in his third season in Knoxville, racking up 320 yards on the ground in addition to four touchdowns.

The Vols also boast an extremely experienced offensive unit, surrounding their true freshman phenom at QB with a remarkably versatile receiving corps headlined by junior wideout Mike Matthews (14 catches for 261 yards, 3 TDs).

Tennessee’s defensive unit has impressed as well under newly hired defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. He's shifted the Vols’ defense into a multiple 4-2-5 and hybrid structural scheme designed to increase physicality and consistency.

The Vols’ defense has allowed opposing offenses just over 15 points per contest thus far and will surely be tested versus an Auburn offense that's been lighting up the scoreboard this season.

Auburn vs Tennessee Pick, Betting Analysis

Both of these teams could desperately use a victory on Saturday.

Despite how successful Golesh has been thus far implementing his up-tempo offense at Auburn with Brown, this will be the Tigers’ first true road test.

With an already turnover-prone QB who's been playing in front of an Auburn home crowd versus far weaker opponents (aside from Florida), I absolutely love the Volunteers in this spot and fully expect Heupel’s bunch to cruise to victory.

I feel confident backing Tennessee to cover its -6.5 spread with -120 juice.

Pick: Tennessee -6.5 (-120) · Tennessee 1Q -0.5 (-110)
