Maryland vs Nebraska College Football Preview
Maryland Terrapins Betting Preview: Broken Shell
Mike Locksley’s tenure with Maryland is nearing its end after an embarrassing outing against UCLA, losing to the Bruins 54-3.
The Terps were abused on both sides of the ball, averaging a measly 2.6 yards per play while UCLA more than doubled their total yardage. Maryland also coughed up the ball on five occasions, making it nearly impossible to get into scoring position.
Maryland’s performance on offense was on par with how the Terps have played so far this season, ranking well below league average in finishing drives and in havoc allowed.
When in passing downs, the Terps' production on offense falls off a cliff, plummeting to 93rd in pass PPA and 94th in pass play explosiveness.
To make matters worse for Maryland, Iverson Howard and Harry Dalton III have yet to find their footing. The Terps enter Week 5 ranked 83rd in rush success rate while averaging less than four yards per carry.
With both facets of the offense severely underwhelming, Maryland is vulnerable to stalling out at a high rate, especially when matched up against a high-quality defense.
Speaking of defense, keeping opponents out of the end zone has been a chore for the Terps this season, as they've fallen to 117th in defensive points per opportunity.
Maryland’s inability to create disruptions at multiple levels of the field makes it easier for opponents to methodically move the ball down the field and control the time of possession.
Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview: Blue Collar Work
Strength of schedule aside, it’s been impressive to see Nebraska take care of business, routing its first four opponents by a combined score of 170-48.
In the Cornhuskers' latest outing against Michigan State, Anthony Colandrea was able to find success through the air and on the ground, posting a total of 278 yards.
While I do expect negative regression to hit at some point, Nebraska has still been efficient on offense, climbing to the top of the board in success rate, explosiveness, finishing drives and havoc allowed.
Colandrea’s consistency in the pocket helps sustain drives down the field, throwing just one interception in four games while completing 65.4% of his passes.
Nebraska’s ground game has also been dominant with Jamal Rule, Mekhi Nelson and Isaiah Mozee all averaging more than 4.5 yards per carry.
Their combined production has given Nebraska’s offense the versatility it needs to help score at a blistering fast pace, leading the Cornhuskers to top-30 marks in rush success rate, PPA and explosiveness.
On the other side of the field, Nebraska has also been able to play at a high level on defense, fielding a group that ranks 24th in points per opportunity and 16th in havoc.

Maryland vs Nebraska Pick, Betting Analysis
Barring a sudden turnaround, it’s tough to envision how Maryland is going to hold Nebraska out of the end zone.
While the Terps do rank just 59th in success rate allowed, the back end has been unable to take advantage of the shortened field when backed up into the red zone, slipping down to the bottom of the board in points per opportunity, as previously mentioned.
The Terps' inability to create havoc will also give Colandrea more time in the pocket to go through his progressions, leading to a decline in his total number of turnover-worthy plays while connecting with his pass catchers at a high rate.
When the defensive line is unable to create pressure, Colandrea will be able to set his feet instead of having to throw on the run, improving the quality of his throws.
When Maryland is on offense, expect the Cornhuskers to limit the Terps.
With Nebraska in a favorable position to run up the score, back the Cornhuskers to clear the over of 33.5 on the team total with a stop point at 35.
If the spread dips down to the key number of 14, diversify your risk by placing a separate wager on Nebraska to cover the number as well.
Pick: Nebraska Team Total Over 33.5
