Miami Hurricanes Betting Preview: Beck to Get Hurricanes Going Early

The Hurricanes come into this matchup off a big bounce-back performance after suffering their first loss of the season to Louisville.

That momentum should carry over into this road matchup.

Miami should have success through the air, as the Mustangs have been susceptible to the pass, allowing chunk plays. Carson Beck has been remarkably efficient this season, ranking fifth nationally in completion rate and 40th in yards per pass.

We've seen teams attack SMU through the air frequently this season, as the Mustangs rank 135th in opponent passes per game and are 134th in pass yards allowed per game.

If Beck can avoid turnovers, we should see the Hurricanes move the ball with authority.

SMU Mustangs Betting Preview: Mustangs Offensive Woes to Continue

The Mustangs are a tough team to gauge in this spot.

They are at home, which helps, but you could argue this is their first true test against an elite team. Two of the Mustangs' three losses have come against Baylor and TCU — both quality teams, but not on Miami's level.

Then, you look at last week's game: a 13-12 loss to Wake Forest, where the offense looked flat in all areas as Kevin Jennings was unable to push the ball down the field, as the Mustangs averaged 2.7 yards on the ground.

That team now has to go against a Miami defense that ranks 10th nationally in yards per rush allowed, 12th in yards per pass allowed, and 14th in opponent completion percentage.

This game looks to be the opposite of a bounce-back spot for SMU's offense.

Miami vs SMU Pick, Betting Analysis

While this looks like a matchup where you'd think SMU would play up to its competition, we should see early that Miami is a level above an untested SMU squad.

Look for the Hurricanes to dominate early on with a scripted offensive drive and fresh defense flying from sideline to sideline.

Pick: Miami 1Q -3.5 or Better
