Nevada vs UCLA College Football Preview

Nevada Wolf Pack Betting Preview: A Lone Wolf
Nevada enters its Week 9 matchup versus UCLA with a 3-4 overall record, having dropped four of its last six contests.
Wolfpack head coach Jeff Choate heavily relies on his rushing attack, with Nevada thriving on a 48.9% success rate on standard-down rushing plays, whilst averaging 181.6 rushing yards per game.
Sophomore tailback Dominic Kelley leads the charge for the Wolfpack on the ground, having racked up 582 rushing yards on the season thus far, along with five rushing touchdowns as well.
Kelley starts in a backfield that also features Junior RB Herschel Turner, who has been remarkably efficient, having rushed for 480 yards on the ground on just 71 touches. Turner’s 6.8 YPC ranks inside the top 20 in all of college football.
While the Wolfpack rushing attack is pretty elite, that couldn't be further from the truth for a passing game that's averaging just 177.3 passing yards per game this season.
Choate’s bunch has a pretty bizarre passing attack that features a few different QBs who have collectively thrown eight passing touchdowns to eight interceptions.
Nevada has six receivers who have recorded upwards of 100 receiving yards this season, but despite its versatility, it has been unable to maintain any form of consistency.
The Wolfpack’s lack of an aerial attack should prove problematic versus an elite rushing defense that can stack the box to contain the run, which is exactly what you can expect Chesney’s Bruins to game plan for this weekend.
UCLA Bruins Betting Preview: A Better Bruin?
UCLA has been a pleasant surprise over the first eight weeks of the 2026-27 College Football season as first-year head coach Bob Chesney has done a phenomenal job with the Bruins after having led James Madison to the College Football Playoffs last year.
Despite losing star quarterback Nico Iamaleava to a season-ending injury versus Oregon, UCLA has been remarkably impressive with senior QB Ty Dieffenbach under center.
Nico’s injury was initially perceived as a massive roadblock towards the Bruins’ College Football Playoff quest; the drop-off from former-Tennessee Vol to Dieffenbach isn't as large as many thought, largely due to his susceptibility to turning over the football.
Prior to getting hurt, Iamaleava threw just four passing touchdowns compared to six turnovers over UCLA’s first five games.
In his absence, the Cal Poly transfer (Dieffenbach) has thrown for 505 passing yards over the last two weeks and fortunately has a very favorable strength-of-schedule for the remainder of the regular season.
UCLA running back Wayne Knight has been phenomenal for Chesney’s rushing attack, having racked up 627 yards on the ground along with 12 rushing touchdowns on an impressive 6.3 yards-per-carry.
Knight was just one of several key players Chesney brought along with him to UCLA, and leads a versatile backfield that also features the likes of Anthony Woods and Jaivian Thomas.
Barring any major upsets over the next month, Chesney’s Bruins have great odds to make the 2027 College Football Playoff.

Nevada vs UCLA Pick, Betting Analysis
Riding the Bob Chesney UCLA “wagon” all year has been profitable, so let's not change course this weekend with the Bruins playing at home versus a far inferior opponent.
Expect the Bruins to jump out in front early on, so back UCLA on its -13.5 first-half spread as the primary handicap for Saturday’s Week 9 showdown.
Pick: UCLA -13.5 1H (+100, DraftKings)
