UC Davis Aggies Betting Preview: Trouble Ahead

I have not been impressed with UC Davis thus far this season.

It jumped out to a big lead against Mercer, only to see it quickly evaporate with the Bears having the opportunity to drive down for the winning score in a game that was declared a no-contest after a lengthy lightning delay.

Last week, this group was down 24-7 deep in the third quarter before scoring the final three touchdowns and escaping with a victory against Utah Tech.

This defense has lost substantial contributors from last year’s middle Big Sky defense, and this year's version seems significantly weaker in the trenches.

The offense, while not dropping as significantly as it could have, is still down from last year with key losses at quarterback and running back. It just doesn’t seem to have as much reliable sauce as we're used to.

The offensive line was a disaster last week while giving up six sacks — not good against a bad FCS defense in Utah Tech. This is going to be tough for the Aggies this week.

Washington Huskies Betting Preview: Got Their Sea Legs Under Them

Washington was a little sluggish in its matchup against Colorado State last week, as the Huskies found themselves in a 14-14 tie at the half.

Washington had several long drives that ended in punts, and there was a fumble in Colorado State territory that swung the momentum toward the Rams in the first half.

In the second half, the defense put the kibosh on everything CSU was attempting to do, and as a result, only one of four Ram possessions in the second half resulted in points.

I expect this week to look a lot like the second half last week, and with a bye week on deck, expect the first string out there a tad longer than normal against the Aggies.

UC Davis vs Washington Pick, Betting Analysis

I'm going to take Washington’s team total over at 41.5.

I have very little confidence in UC Davis and its ability to record stops against this Huskies attack in this one.

In both of their first two contests, the Aggies were the perceived stronger team, and the defense underwhelmed in both games. Utah Tech quarterback Bronson Barben threw the ball around nicely, and the Trailblazers had several long, explosive pass plays.

I expect Demond Williams Jr. to feast in this game. Washington is loaded at receiver, and Denzel Boston and Rashid Williams should have massive outputs here.

I would expect the ground game to be more explosive and for Jedd Fisch to open up this offense here and throw the ball more with Williams.

The offensive line for Washington will have a large size advantage here, and I'm guessing this group will be challenged a bit this week in practice after surrendering three sacks last week.

UC Davis struggled to create defensive Havoc last week, registering only three tackles for loss without recording a sack. This was against an offensive line it should've been able to overmatch.

The Aggies are going to struggle on offense to move the ball and consistently achieve first downs. The team rushing average against Utah Tech (really bad FCS defense) was just 3.8 yards per carry, and the Aggies' offensive line surrendered eight tackles for loss and six sacks.

They're going to get eaten alive here by the Washington defensive front, and I would expect plenty of third-and-longs here for UC Davis.

I expect short fields for Washington and a quick-strike offense. This could get really out of hand. Peek at the team totals and go over anything better than 44.5.

Pick: Washington Team Total Over 41.5 (Play to 44.5)
